vip-carlVIPStakes Sports betting representative The VIPStakes sports representative that blogged from Brazil during the World Cup is back with a series of Sports Blogs in which he will write about the upcoming Premier League. Here's a short introduction about this season's teams, some predictions and betting advice!
Southampton FC
Last season:
After a 14th place in their comeback season to Premiership 2012/13 The Saints kept on developing their team based primarily on home-grown talent. They started the season in an impressive fashion but after dropping a little during the late stages of the season they finished in eight places only eight points behind then reign champions Man United.
2014/15-season preview:
A young and exciting team achieves great results and then the big clubs buys all their players. We’ve seen it before and this time it’s even clearer than ever before. It started with Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, continued with Luke Shaw to Man United and then Lallana (Liverpool), Chambers (Arsenal) and finally Lovren (Liverpool). All combined the sales raised over a hundred million pounds. The squad is at the moment lacking depth and new manager Ronald Koeman will definitely bring in a few more signings before the window closes. So far he has brought Italian striker Graziano Pellé and Serbian winger Disan Tadic with him from the Dutch League, together with Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider from Inter, Chelsea left back Ryan Bertrand and the English goalkeeper Fraser Forster from Celtic.
Player profile:
Gaston Ramirez was one of the most sought-after players in the summer of 2012 with clubs like Man City and Liverpool racing for his signature after his successful season with Serie A side Bologna. He surprisingly signed with Southampton for a club-record fee. His two-year spell at the South Coast club has not been as successful as they hoped but in the absence of Adam Lallana this year it could be the right time for the Uruguayan international to become the main man of the Southampton attacking game. Can he handle that pressure?
Summary:
The loss of half their starting eleven makes Southampton one of the hardest teams to predict ahead of new season. After back-to-back promotions and two successful seasons in the Premier League the club has now lost most of the players helping them with that journey. It could end with a new exciting team but it could also go the opposite way. Only one thing is for sure: It will be interesting to follow.
Prediction:
15th place
