British Gamblers Jailed for Cheating at Casino de Monte-Carlo

Three British gamblers were jailed after being caught cheating at Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco. Their cunning stunt allowed them to pocket £2.9 million simply by switching ten-euro tokens with 1,000-euro chips. Their simple yet effective scam even left the local authorities impressed.

Sajid Rashid, the brains of the operation, along with Qamar Hussain and Zahidul Haque Khan, all British nationals, has been given a sentence of 18 months to three years imprisonment. Even so, despite the prison sentences given to them, the three cheats have only been required by the Societe des bains de mer de Monaco (SBM) to pay £624,000 of their purportedly cheated winnings, thus getting away with more than £2 million.

The head of the Gaming Control Services of the Government of Monaco Christian Ollier said, "These gentlemen were very good."

The professional cheats scammed the Casino de Monte-Carlo for more than a year, from April 2014 to June 2015. The three had accrued nearly £2.9 million at the roulette tables. Their gambling scam was very successful that they were even given free accommodation at a nearby luxury hotel and have been lavished with drinks and food.

Sajid Rashid has used different aliases to be able to get entry into the casino. He is currently banned for life in London casinos after a gambling-related conviction in the United Kingdom. His partners have joined him at a later time. Zahidul is the only one who has denied involvement in the scam. "I just went to grab something to eat and smoke a cigarette," he said when confronted with the CCTV footage of him slipping tokens into his pocket.

The three men are expected to be imprisoned in Monaco's tiny prison which only has 20 cells.
The Casino de Monte-Carlo has had its fair share of scams since it opened almost 200 years ago. The scams were mostly perpetrated by gamblers or conmen who found ways of beating the system. Of course, the best cheats will be the ones you never hear about.

In the mind of these (and others) cheaters may lay the big truth: "The main problem of cheating is that you never know when you should stop cheating". Such a big amount of money with such a simple scam, to switch chips. How could they even have done it? I was thinking maube one of them was working for the casino, this way it would be simple, but making the switch without that help? How can no onw noticed?

ok so from what i read these dudes will get to spend some time in a pretty decent prison (18 months to 3 years), but they get to keep over 2 million pounds in cheated money... lol, so to rephrase this... 3 british gamblers will be paid 1 million pounds a year to spend some time in monaco's prison.

It's effin ridiculous (especially the part where the article states that Rashid, Hussain and Khan all nothing but pure british individuals) but tbh I'd do time on that tiny prison for free - just for the laughs and the memories...

Wow its terrible what gambling can do to people if they go too far well let's hope these who were caught and charged can learn their lesson in jail and reshape their lives when they are free and live an honest life

Yeah, I don't think so this is working like that. Only thing they are going to be shaping is their story about those barbie house sized prison cells.

Of course what they did was wrong and illegal but i must say what an effort and incredible scam. Even though they are in the wrong i take my hat off to the and what they managed to full off. They obviously found a gap and took a chance, fulling it off amazingly, perhaps they should have done it onbce and gone back home. Perhaps greed too over lol

Well, greed is good but the casino at the end was sure more greedier than them otherwise they could have do it more times.

The three men are expected to be imprisoned in Monaco's tiny prison which only has 20 cells. This is the best outcome possible. They will still be together have 2 million between them. They are lodged and fed for free for 1 1/2 - 3 years. Enough time to plan the next gig. F*** the system.

Ahhhhh to bad they got caught, i feel sorry for these guys, coz they were only trying to take down the house and i respect that, if they cheated other players, then i would have been like "good they caught them" but this naaaaah, they should have played it cooler and might just gotten away with it...
And for the "Britishness" of these guys, well if they had proper british id`s, what else would u call them Big Smile i feel the anger of some of the regs in here when they have a problem with this issue, same thing when ethnic albanians with macedonian documents are giving all macedonians all over europe a bad name, but there u have it, our government is also corrupt, we r noo exception to the rule Big Smile
but all in all i respect these guys, at least they went for it Big Smile
