Macau Casino Revenue Down 97% in June

This year, revenues from gambling in Macau declined every month, as a bleak result from the devastating effects of the worldwide novel coronavirus pandemic.

The figures showing the monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) of Macau, according to the DICJ (Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau) are as follows: January revenue was down by 11.3%, February 87.8%, March 79.7%, April 96.8%, May 93.2%, and June 97%.

Macau Casinos to Reopen Thursday after Coronavirus Shutdown

Macau, the world's biggest gambling hub, shall finally allow casinos to resume operations starting February 20, Thursday, after authorities slapped a two-week suspension due to the coronavirus outbreak. The suspension was to keep the virus in check, according to public broadcaster TDM.

Most of the government services that had been suspended since February started will also resume operations this week, and authorities are cautioning the residents to remain vigilant.

On Friday, Chinese police have reportedly detained many representatives of Australian casino giant Crown Resorts Ltd and the real reason was not divulged as of yet. Shares in billionaire James Packer's Australian gaming and resorts company Crown Resorts fell by over 10% today following the arrest of 18 of its employees by the Chinese authorities, which included three Australian nationals. Crown's executive general manager of international VIP services Jason O'Connor has been verified as one of the detained Australians.
