July proved to be the golden month for Las Vegas.

According to a report published by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, an astounding $794 million in gambling revenue was collected from casinos on The Strip last month - the biggest all-time win total for the state so far this year. July showed a relevant 46% increase compared to the pre-pandemic revenue in July 2019.

Air Travel to Las Vegas Climbs Higher in April, High-Speed Train Planned

The number of passengers using McCarran International Airport significantly improved in April, a positive outcome for casinos in Las Vegas. Arrivals and departures, however, have sunk by millions compared to the numbers before the pandemic.

According to the statistics that the Clark County Department of Aviation released Tuesday, around 2.9 million people made their way through the airport in April. The total is 331,284 more than the number of arriving and departing passengers in March.

Still, the April 2021 figure is 32% lower compared to the total in April 2019, when 4.3 million passengers used the airport.

Sheldon Adelson, the founder, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, has died on Monday evening, January 11, in his home in Malibu, California. He was 87.

According to a press release from the company, Adelson died from complications linked to treatment for his non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Last week, he stepped down from his role as chairman to resume treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, an ailment for which he underwent treatment in 2019.

Eldorado and Caesars complete Merger Deal to become Largest Casino Owner in the World

Eldorado Resorts Inc. completed its $17.3 billion acquisition of Caesars Entertainment Corp. after overcoming a series of hurdles, including the worldwide pandemic, to become as the largest casino owner in the world.

The New Jersey Casino Control Commission finally approved the merger after two days of hearings with Eldorado executives. An antitrust analyst assured the commission that the deal will not concentrate too much of the local casino market. The new company will still be called Caesars Entertainment, but some are already calling it "New Caesars".

The familiar off-Strip landmark will be shut down for renovations to transition to its brand new name Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The venue shall be completely closed starting February 2020 until almost the end of the year.

The original strategy was to complete the first four months of the renovation in stages, so that the property could be kept open for business. After that first four months, the whole area shall be closed until everything is finished. However, in the end management decided that the initial plan would be too difficult to implement.

A fire broke out on the roof of Bellagio Hotel on Thursday evening. Clark County Fire Department arrived at the scene at 10:50 p.m. local time after receiving the first call just 4 minutes earlier. The fire was put out around 11:09 p.m. after extremly difficult firefighter efforts due to the location of the fire and access to the location. There are no reported injuries.

Todd Brunson, son of poker legend Doyle Brunson, was playing poker at the Bellagio when the fire started.
