bryan york, perfect reason we should have forum mods   +3
i asked the question a while back and people said they didnt feel the need for this site to have moderators, bryans been on a rampage in the last 48hrs and admin hasnt been online, i doubt very much tony would let this slide if he saw even half the posts this muppets wrote, admin should pick 2 or 3 well balanced, regular posters and give them the power to issue red and yellow cards, thoughts?

it's strange, even relatively small forums generally have mods. And given the nature of this forum (real money related) I think it's smallish regular posting community could use just 1 or 2 mods (maybe one from each side of a GMT spectrum). Especially to immediately remove links to competing sites and potential scamming/begging.

But also being such an internationally used forum, being able to censor (non funny) racism straight away would also be good.

I'm not overly fussed if there's a mod or not, because honestly, it's not that often that a) admin isn't around and b) there's something that calls for a mod

But yes I agree, it wouldn't hurt to have one or two.

we can use the thumbs down to hide posts but lets face it, everyone uses the view post anyway option, tony should reward a couple of good regular posters who have their heads screwed on right and offer them the privledge of being a mod, just IMO.

im not angling to become a mod FWIW, my head isnt screwed on right and im no way near as active as i used to be.

It's only possible to use the "view post"-option when it has a few minusses. Once it gets down to -4 or -5, it can only be viewed by an admin.

It's just tough luck that this guy decides to go bonanza in a weekend where I haven't been able to read all his posts. Should be fairly easy though to make it so that if a user receives more than, say, -10 ratings in a 24 hour period, then he'll be auto banned for 1 day, not able to cause any more problems, and we'll be notified about him too.

yeah that should do it, but then we may get someone who has a grudge against someone and starts the thumbs down in all that someones posts for no good reason, maybe it should be if a poster gets 5 or 6 thumbs down from different posters, not sure if that could be done though.

or maybe using the thumbs down button out of spite could draw a ban of its own.

Yes, that might be a better way, to make sure that just one person cannot ban a user from the forum for 24 hours all by himself. Of course there's still access to other parts of the site, it's only the writing permissions in forum that is removed for 24 hours or something, to ensure that a moderator can have a look at it.

I hate the idea of regular posters having banning powers. Sites can go just as bad as when one guy spams the forums on a day admin is busy to go through posts. Admin does a great job and this site ain't to bad.
