WTF ???
I thought bots were illegal to use on ALL poker sites. I just had a look at "Shanky Technologies", and they say that Full Tilt and other sites are supported!
Again.....WTF ????
Poker rooms have software that are supposed to spot Bots and ban them, I thought. I think I will mail FT and ask if that soft is legal according to them, or not. Really want to know now....
And yes, I'll be clear that I don't use them, and hope they are banned.

A lot of things are illegal. But that does not stop people from doing it.

Why would anyone want to use a bot if they enjoy playing poker? It's pointless and cheating.
It's like Ronaldo sending out a bot version of himself cos he can't be arsed playing for Real Madrid but still wants to pick up his wages...fucking ridiculous.
On the topic I swear I was playing a bot the other day on PKR - very wierd play, a tonne of calls, limping, occassional raise, often had premium hands - if I'm correct I reckon it was an onsite bot.
Can't be sure though, but they won so many pots that mathematically they shouldn't have.
And Betfair is riddled i reckon with all the FGSDFGDHHDx or dsgdsfhgsdfh_x screen names on there who never ever chat.
Lost about 6 consecutive hands with sizeable pots - they caught river cards 3times and won despite the fact i had the better hand up till that point. They called all my bets and raises.
Also caught backdoor flush holding 72s and i'd raised and raised with the best hand - no fold.
Maybe inhouse bot is a bit much, but wtf.... it's like trying to predict a retards next move - impossible

if bots would regularly make money- and do it with no lapses, risk etc. bot creators would never ever give it away even for decent cash- it would be a money printing machine, wouldn't it? all that is necessary to do is to create a lot of accounts and wait for the money to roll in, btw i have nothing against them

Yeah exactly - it's obviously not a guaranteed winner.
A bot loses to suckouts the same as any other person and has many many weaknesses. That doesn't make it acceptable imo - the fact is poker needs to have some sort of 'regularity' to it. To have robots playing poker is utterly pointless.
why not create a bot site where people can try to create the most profitable bot - but really, no poker player worth their salt thinks a bot is a good idea.

If there are bots playing I find it disappointing to think that an individuals greed supercedes the enjoyment of playing an honest game of poker. I guess that's why I'll never get wealthy playing poker. I stick to the $5.50 and lower buyins and plan to work until I'm 68 years old, but still playing poker until I'm 86 years old.

Can the poker sites actually detect bots? Its all well and good saying they are illegal and all of us sayiong its shocking how some people use bots, but what are the sites doing about it? Would be interesting to know.

There are quite a few ways that any decent site could detect bots. First off, most clients actually have a "scanner" that can detect running programs. This is how they are able to detect people using banned software, such as table scrapers that give players advice on how to play based on stats/board/hand etc. No, I'm not talking about HUDS, but programs that solely exist to coach players while they are playing. Some ICM programs aren't allowed either.
Other things, such as patterns of how they play hands emerge as well. While a real person will let many factors such as tilt/fatigue etc alter their play, a bot will ALWAYS play the exact same way.
Another good way, is when and how long players tend to play for. It's obvious that someone playing for 14+ hours a day across 8+ micro tables playing every day will arouse suspicion as well. Sure it could just be a grinder, but they will also take periodic breaks, whereas most bots won't.
Obviously it wouldn't be hard to circumvent most of these, but there's still a lot of other ways to weed out botters. Someone rooms actually made use of image verification every xx minutes a player played. I don't know if this is still in practice, or used often, but it's just one of many many ways they can tell. At least the more reputable rooms anyway.
