WTF...Idiot decision.
Governments must think that online poker can be a good source of money for them on this time of economical crysis so why ban it when you too can make profits from it?
I can not understand this kind of decisions...

LOL, do you really are that blueeyed and think that only the ones who live in SOUTH AFRICA win in poker Confused. Maybe 300 000 of them will play and put money on it, but only 3000 will make profit and actually bring money in. Now think how much money travels out the country.

IMO - they ban it because obviously large amounts of SA money is travelling out the country to other players accounts, and that is what effects the economy! Or you have any better idea?

Edit: Now dont take it personally again lol. Im just trying to make a point why they act so.
Edit: just saw the 2nd post posted by Pjot and he was saying same thing. Thumbs Up

The problem is, IMO, lumping poker in with online gambling in general. Because i don't really care if a country bans online gambling.. it's pretty nasty.. real casino's are bad enough, online ones are filth IMO. But they need to separate poker from this mob. Ban the casinos, keep the poker Big Smile

its rigged, the offline casinos have so a strong lobby, paying politics and even judges around the world.. but, of course the big poker sites are also guilty, with their not random card dealing software as Pstars and Fulltilt...

I mean why don't they put some kind of taxes instead of banning it forever?Like when a player wants to cashout a very little percent of the sum he wants to cashout would go to tha state as an imposit or something.Maybe I am saying b******t here but I simply dont understand this decision.

is any1 here a resident at south africa? i guess they're the one's that should make a reaction.... Blink Blink Blink Blink Blink Blink

I don't think the poll was that nessecesary. Who, on a pokerforum, would vote _for_ such a decision? Except someone who just got busted because of the evil rigg, that is?

Yeah now that you said it I really think it wasn't necessary. There can't be anyone who agrees to that except for the ones who decided it.

And just to prove I was wrong two people has voted yes! Big Smile

Yeah those two must be economic experts or something like that.

He he... I do belive so....

Hi

Stupid decision!
The goverment isnt getting a cut of the action, maybe thats why they did it,watch the goverment will have their own online soon so they can benefit from the profits..
In canada,b.c. the goverment started their own online gambling business because they knew they were losing $$ to offshore gambling,we are having poker soon too.

I'm from South Africa and this effects me directly.
Sick thing is that in some occasions murderers and rapists dont even get such a hefty jail sentence. SA needs to sort out other s**t before they start targeting people who gamble for recreational purposes.

Any idea then why they decided this?
I don´t really see any explanation in the article.

And to those guys talking about 10%, even 0.1% tax, try living in Belgium.
Once they get it regulated, and they´re working on it, it´ll be more like 40% here. No joke on that!

They made it illigal due the goverment cant tax us on the poker money so they made it illigal (as i heard)

So ill just go play at overseas poker sites and use my moneybookers acc.
