I was reading this thread this morning, and I said to myself:
I need to win the first Party freeroll to make a point.

And I did.
The point being that there IS a way to win freerolls. Blink

Very nice!

Do you mind telling all of us what that way IS?
Did you adjust your playing style much (for freeroll)?
Do you feel you can repeat this, and are you going to try?

Always nice to see someone active in these forums doing well... Thumbs Up

I adjust my playing style COMPLETELY in freerolls, aspecially the early stages until after the bubble.
Iùll try and find the HUGE post i made last year, although that structure was on FT and much slower. 10+ hours to win it.
These are done in under 5 hours.

Short points:
No rasing pre.
You will get ridiculously re-raised (like 6-10x BB), having to fold, and decimating your stack in no time.
No all-ins unless you DEFINITELY have the nuts.
People are going in with any and all garbage, hitting hidden 2 pairs like J3 A2 etc.
You can't use logic to figure that out because there is no logic (statistically).

Raising to get people off the hand really doesnt work, they don't respect raises.
Bluffing is tough because nobody believes you.

So:

Limp in late position or early with great hands once you have some chips.
People will do the raising for you in these tournaments, no worries.
You MUST double or triple up at some point. (patience, it WILL come)

When I have the nuts, I just let the others commit stack suicide (they always do).
Check, limp, check limp call the bluff, call the raise, check call..... Big Smile

Later stages when the Bubble has burst and the small stacks have shoved out to build up, you can play more normal Poker.

Just about to play in a H.O.R.S.E event on merge, ill give this a shot, and let you know how i get on Smile

------------
Well didn't go as planned, finished in 2016, out of 2825 and it was limit... Thought I played reasonably well, in the early stages, throughout the HE and Omaha, Razz came along, and I felt that's where i lost a lot of my chips, not because i don't know how to play razz, just lost one pot with an 8 lo, and lost to a hidden 7 lo. Ended up miss playing a hand hugely in the 7 stud and left with 35 chips.

Not a good tournament. Ill try this strategy in a Hold Em freeroll, as I feel there was too much variance in the H.O.R.S.E event to utilize it properly.

freeroll is just a plain gamble and nothing else- the only way a freeroll cannot be a pure gamble is when the structure of the tournament is very slow (i.e. blinds are 20 min) and starting chips are very deep (i.e. instead of 1000/1500 which is standard- 5000 at least)- with this structure you are not forced by time to make decisions, and therefore you just skip the stupid ones Confused

You obviously did not read this post very well.
Go up a bit and read.

That was my whole point.
You CAN win at freerolls, it just takes a very different strategy.
I also made a post about the first Party Freeroll a few days ago.
I really wanted to win it, like last year on FT, and I did.
It takes A LOT of concentration, but then so does every Poker tournament really.
I just opened this one tournament and did nothing else in the meantime, unlike what I usually do.
No multi-tabling, no surfing the net etc etc...

Kind of proves a point IMO.

Unless I just got "lucky" 2 years in a row?.....

i always play chess or read news on internet when playing freerolls, waiting for a pocket hand (in the early stages any 22+ is good Big Smile ) to move allin.
if i bust np, if i double up i start playin poker. the style is not different to as if i was playin a tourny with my own money.
