So I was sharing some of my blog posts on fbook, when a friend of mine started asking me all kinds of questions.
Do you play texas hold'em?
Have you tried playing at any of the local freerolls? etc.
The second question stopped me, no I haven't, didn't even know we had any.
So we got to talking and she invited me to a freeroll somewhere a half hour south. Going to try my hand at the real thing, just to get a taste of it, wish me luck. Deuces!

We have a few live freerolls in melbourne.. Not many
Although most games around melbourne are "pub league" games - they are free to enter and you can generally win prizes on the night, sometimes cash. And there's generally league leader board prizes also - so in many respects these are also "freerolls" however - the main difference with these is that you can normally have 1 rebuy and 1 addon - and the cost of these is purchasing a certain amount of drinks from the venue - which means you're at a severe disadvantage if you don't buy lots of drinks.
However, I've seen a couple actual live freerolls also - they definitely exist.
Basically - the way they work is they get people into a venue- where they then purchase drinks, food, smokes etc.
"live freerolls" better be worth your time cos think about it....you gotta make your way down to the casino/poker room and god knows how many entrants are there and what is the payout like?!?!

Yes indeed they do exist.
I didn't win. I'll just put that out there now.
But, I believe there were a good ten or so tables, filled with people...So my guesstimate would about 100 people in the free roll that I went to. I was told that first place winner gets 100 dollars and second place gets 50 dollars...So a $150 free roll.
I myself had a blast, it was great, live is so much easier than online. I finished on the last two tables, only had 4k chips (4 green ones apparently), got pocket 10s first hand, went for it. Q A and some nothing card...turn: nothing important...river: Q

We have a poker league here which is like a freeroll type entry to the WSOP or WPT. It is a lot of fun and it is where I learned to play live poker and not have my hands shake like crazy when I raise with AA! It started in my home province of Quebec, and has spread to many other provinces now as well. I have been able to advance several stages but never get to the big tournament where you win your seat on WSOP or WPT. Still, a lot of fun and because it is almost free ($2.00), people don’t get too upset when you bust them out.

Sounds nice, a night out with playing poker, nothing serious, just a little fun(Jess) and a nice way to win a WSOP/WPT seat (mahdrof). I wish they had something like that over here, hope you have more luck next time, Farce
