The thing is he manages to get value out of his big hands because of his reputation/table image, that's what makes winners in my opinion!

But sometimes he can be over agressive, every player has his weaknesses ^^ I've seen him veing very unlucky also, I think there is luckier players... For example Jason Mercier Big Smile

don't think Dwan would have been feeling to lucky when he played Viktor Blom..

LAG players always tend to 'look' like donks, they key distinction (other than the millions of dollars) is they are actually thinking about what they're doing, as opposed to donkeys.

The other thing with the hyper-LAG types is they tend to make their opponents play bad as well, because their opponents have to adjust their ranges to not get run over and if they're generally more TAG then they'll be a bit out of their comfort zone and make mistakes.

Are u talking about the last video BRM placed here? He is such a great bluffer, when i start looking at him, he looks frightened, like if he was revealing he has nothing in his hand, but after a whyle, i just cant say if he is doing that for real or if he is faking, bluffing. Thats a poker face hard to forget!

gave u thumbs up for a great breakdown of a donk compared to a lag
everyone calls me a donk at the table when i bust them or they suck out
so i always say... nits can be bigger donks then lags

and i just got my pocket queens cracked by a 83o... smh at getting like 5 callers preflop with garbage lol poker!!

Yep, you've said exactly what I wanted to say with better words(sorry english is not my first language)! Thumbs up! Big Smile

Sometimes tight players think you're a donk for being in the hand with a weak hand but they didn't even realise they gave you the right odds to be in the hand...

Many time he gets lucky, i give you that but he is also one of the sickest bluffers around...

I think he really is one of those few players that can make such a sick cold bluff, especially in live poker. The other two names i'm thinking at are viktor blom and phil ivey.

Still, i remember some ugly situations in which his bluffs went wrong and he lost a lot of

Dollar Dollar Dollar

this is a retarded post. i'm sure after the millions of hands dwan has played and is a winning player, at the highest limits against the very best players, that he is "lucky". come on. it's like when people didn't know anything about poker and thought gus hansen had horsehoes up his ass or something. obviously they are not lucky. they play a very loose aggressive style, but its all very calculated. dwan plays a wide range of hands, yes. and shows down some pretty awful cards. but did you ever think about the cards he doesn't show (folds)? he shows them down because they are winning cards... or he had the odds, was pot committed, or misproperly read the hand thinking that putting pressure on would get his man to fold.

I agree, good post, well said, except about saying that luck has nothing to do with it. I believe all the top players will say that you have to get lucky with the cards sometimes, especially if you are playing at MTT tourneys, you need some good luck at some points to continue. But, to be good ( great ) you have to have a complete game, without major leaks, lots of experience, smart, and once in a while have lady luck smiling on you. IMHO anyway. Cheers......

of course. individual hands, sessions or tournaments involve luck for sure. that goes for anyone, including pros. what im saying is that over the course of thousands or millions of hands (or many tournaments if youre a tournament player), luck is virtually no longer a factor and it plainly just comes down to if you are a winning or losing player. in super dumbed down terms, think of it like this... if you got your money all in on a coin flip... at that individual moment if you win, you got "lucky" and if you lose you were "unlucky"... over a million hands that 50/50 will turn out to be just that, 50/50....

for anyone to call tom dwan just "lucky" having played the ridiculous number of hands he has played both online and live, over the number of years he has played, at the stakes he plays and to still be a winning player, is just an absolutely obsurd statement to make. period.

In the end, THIS ^

Although personally I spell it 'absurd'. But hey, that is just me.

Point made, and that illustrates it well, and i agree with you, and those sentiments. I just didn't do very well in how i said it, as i certainly think it is rediculous to call any of the top players 'just lucky', as there would be a lot more people making the big money than there is. Cheers.. Smile
