Check it out. MIT holding a poker-bot challenge.. I'll be keen to follow this, be pretty interested in watching the game too, I hope they record it. I'd love to see the source code released too, except obviously that would be incredibly irresponsible so I'm pretty sure they won't

surely would be interesting one, maybe they can come up with a league only for bots to be played weekly/monthly. dont think they gonna release the code though.

Oi, I seriously can't believe ANYONE would think this is a good idea. It's crap like this that is killing the online poker world. Serious, scandal after scandal is NOT good for the industry. Perhaps with regulation, this kind of activity will be hunted down and quickly thwarted.
Also, this just gives rigtards more ammo for their argument. Seriously, god it makes me sick how some people let their own personal greed ruin a good thing for everyone else.

I would seriously love to see that.. I would get involved for sure - I love problem solving based programming. I can never think of programming projects to get involved with..But I would jump on board 100% if they ran a league, I reckon I would enjoy that far more than actually playing poker.. infinitely more challenging, that's for sure.

I honestly cannot imagine a single piece of legislation that would allow them to shut this down. They're not even gambling. They're simply programming AI's to play a game. It's not like they would be running them on an official poker site and certainly not against humans.
On what grounds could this possibly be "thwarted" ?
Personally - I am all for it, I think it's fascinating.

This will really show once and for all if pokerbots can beat top poker players ! This is really good ! Chess is still played worldwide just because the computer can beat a top playe anyday

All this ultra-special-increased-brain-usage geeks are studying just to ruin the who-cares-about-study-lets-play-poker people? At least, let someone tell them they can win millions selling this tools for a low price to reach a big amount of clients worldwide and, instead of playing against each other, we will pass the future buying new bots and sit watching them playing for us, to see who has the best bot!

Love the MIT guys, watch a fair few vids from U-Tube, I just pretend to understand. The only downside to this comp is they will first play bots individually then they will play each other, so no human Vs bot. But wow what a course, Id bet we have another MIT WSOP win in the wings, can't play BJ so lets hit NLHE

I´m sure it giges not so many winning bots if the people believe. And the most of them are not bots, they are massgrinder with a lot of mistakes in their game. Don´t forget: Robocop isn´t a bot, he is a police officer
With chess it's almost impossible to beat the best computer programs. But chess is a very complicated game, not at all like poker. I wonder if computers have less of an advantage in poker, because playing a purely mathematical game is not a winning strategy in poker.
It is hard to make a computer program unpredictable, and even harder for it to analyse and predict the humans it's playing (I imagine this complication doesn't come up as much with chess).
As of yet haven't heard of unbeatable poker bots like you have in chess...

I don't understand this program, it's competition we play poker against bot and compare with another player or we create program ( bot ) to play poker. If we play against bot , I think is good, almost similiar duplicate bridge. See duplicate poker at IMSA ( International Mind Sport Association ).

I can understand the challenge for all those involved in computer programming and i believe while i have nothing to do with that, that such a competition will be awesome, but on the other hand it only takes just one of the participants to implement the source code as you say in a poker site, and then of course you know the rest

As somebody who did programming back in the old days, when men were men and computers were 64k like the Apple IIE I have thought about the challenges posed by creating a winning bot too (I love challenges). Not that I have time to do this, but I certainly appreciate how someone like you would see this as a very interesting goal to achieve.
