I'm thinking about opening an account there but u guys are starting to scare me. Is the software ok there or not? don't really feel like making a deposit just to get stuck for hours ( which i don't have to spare) without being able to play.

there is no problem for me at pokerstars, maybe you filter is deactive on cash play or something esle are not active at filter. So my suggestion is to check out your filters settings and is the problem persist try the unninstal the program and reinstal.
