Well i know you can legaly smoke weed in holland and visit prostitutes in Amsterdam but for the rest netherlands are 1 of the best country's in europe to live and i think in the world....better then polen mr mascona because you people come here by the 1000's to work illigaly...dont get me wrong i have polish friends to...they actualy inhabit half my building so i have to be . .lol
And about the euthanasia is totaly not true....there are very strickt rules for euthanasia and this cannot be decided by no one else then a doctor and you have to be in a very bad situation even to ever get a aproval on that...its not done very often i can tell you that

BUT i do agree that its bs to stop people from playing online....I think there should be more supervision on the online gambling to make it as save as possible for the player

well that's probably due to the fact that this helps to launder money, transfer huge lumps of cash without paying taxes etc.- in the end i doubt this is due to the fact that Netherlands government wants to stop people from playing, this is more or less due to more serious business
The dutch supreme court has ruled that the blocking (which is pre-existing since 2003) of foreign betting site "LadBrokes", is allowed. There was no mention of blocking poker software.
This block is intended to protect citizens against gambling addiction. The only allowed site (Lotto) has to abide by strict government regulations (and does).
In fact I seem to remember a ruling from a few years ago, that poker is a game of skill, not a game of chance. So there is precedent for not blocking poker sites.

I don't know. We can't really bet on anything over here; it's all lottery type of games. There's no bookmakers, horse races or anything, like in the UK. I bet (pun intended) that for governments that do allow gambling, it is a huge source of tax revenue...

Woah! going to stop you there. We have more or less the same situation in Belgium, and there are definitely bookmaker offices in Holland as well. The company "scientific games" runs them. Lots of locations. And you can bet on horses, football, whatever. Also the Casinos. Holland Casinos, lots of them. And the "gokkasten", thousands of gambling addicts on those. And least of all, the Lotto type thingy, where sooo many pensioners actually spend a huge chunk of it every week throwing their money to the government, not to mention all the other addicts donating a percentage of their salsry every month to that.
Same in Belgium, they want to "legalize" online gambling by denying access online to everyone and every site........ UNTIL...... they make a deal and collect taxes on them. They PRETEND it is to safeguard the citicens against gambling addiction, but we all know it's utter rubbish. There is SO much money in online gambling, all governments want to get in on the action. The SOCIAL excuse is to make sure people don't get "addicted" to gambling. Load of rubbish obviously, since the Casinos are allowed, the lotto and lotteries are allowed, gambling venues (bookmakers) are allowed, and even online sites where the Tax Department can have access to all data like Pokerstars now in Belgium are allowed.
The rest will be blocked soon, UNTIL they make a "Deal" with the government so they can be cut in on the action as well.
Let's not be naive about this, it is well-known and very clear why Countries are doing this. Has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with safeguarding it's citizens.

I don't live there of course, but have visited 4 or 5 times, that is Amsterdam and enjoy the getaway so I'm not up on the political practices for gambling. I just know I don't like what the U.S. did to us here and don't like anyone or governemnet mettling in my personal choices. That is, I work pay taxes and should be able to on-line gamble a bit. Maybe I'm way off track here!

Mechanism is simple. Buy the governmental license for gambling, you will be able to operate on the Dutch market. Money from taxes etc.. Sometimes it works that only "firends" of politicians can obtain gambling license..
What about economy freedom in UE? Politicians say that there is free exchange of services .. : ))) LOL
Polish government does not block foreign online gambling operators yet, but it is illegal to provide such services to residents of Poland. Fortunately they do not execute this law...
