So as I know many players come here for advice on their game. I came up with the idea for this little thread. Most any poker player I know that takes his/her game seriously reads. Reads a lot. Poker Magazines, Newspapers, Books, & yes even some books not on poker. The point is, most poker players I know have at least a few poker books. I myself have a few, & have read many others. The following is a list of some of the books I own, some I have read & would suggest you read or possibly own(then you can read & re-read it!), and some I need to get. Books I own: Hoyle on poker(a general rule book I picked up for free somewhere. A very dry read with no real use full information. Aside from what hand beats what.) Online Poker( A small book written by Doyle Brunson. I must admit I've never read it fully as I didn't find it to have that much use full information about online poker. I have a great website I blog on for that. ) Super Systems I( known as the professional poker players bible. Written by Doyle Brunson & several "masters" of the game at the time. I've read this book cover to cover and re-read it several times.) Harrington on Hold Em Volume I Expert advice on tournament strategy( This book is written by "Action" Dan Harrington one of my favorite poker authors lately.I only own volume I, I need to purchase volumes II & III so I can finish my reading of the series.) Harrington on Cash Games Vol I & II( These are my latest purchase also written by Dan Harrington. I just got them a few days ago & am already halfway through volume I. I find these books highly informative an a must read for any serious poker player.) So that's pretty much it on the books I own. Here are a few others I have read & believe every serious player should also. Mike Caro's Book of Tells, Theory of Poker by David Skalansky, Expert Hold Em Advice for the Advanced Player also by Skalansky, Super Systems II by Doyle Brunson (he covers a few different topics, but also with everything from the original Super Systems as well). Here are some books I haven't read but would like to: Ace on the River by Barry Greenstien, Kill Phil Vol I & II (not sure of the author but heard great things about this book). I also read every Card Player I can get my hands on as well as The Poker Player Newspaper. Not too mention I also like to read biographies & fantasy books when I have the chance as well. So Mobsters what's in your poker library? Or anything really that you like to read.... Inquiring minds want to know.

I only have a poker book, it is a portuguese one, written by a pro, but which is very basic, giving a first approach to the game and showing some history of the best known pros. I already read some more, that I have taken from the internet, but don’t remember their names. In those, I got a little bit more knowledge about strategy, but I haven’t seen any guide in none of those I read.

I have three books: The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky. A bit dated but a good read for a beginner player with 6 months under his belt. Ace On the River by barry Greenstein. My favourite poker player because of his ability to win consistently over many years, variations of the game as well as tourney and cash. Not a lot of poker strategy, read it more for the biographical aspect. Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I. Recommended to us by Jessthehuman, am partway through it and definitely worth it.

Although Ace on the River is a good read i found it more a coffee table book then a book on theory or applied poker. "Harrington on" is likely the best way for a player to improve most rapidly given the examples and easy reading. Super Systems assumes you know alot of advanced Poker terms and such so id recommend Harringtons first.

I didn't think there was much strategy in Ace on the River. I believe there is a really good two book set on PLO written by Jeff Hwang. He does a weekly article in Card PLayer also. The last two months he's had some stuff taken from his book. I found it to be highly informative. Super Systems is a bit outdated, and more for the high stakes player. Most of the concepts don't really apply to most of the lower stakes games. Harrington's books were much more helpful, as he includes examples of his principles in lower & medium stakes games.

I read alot but poker books arent my cup of tea. I dont see it being impossible considering some of the members here are retired. Im more of the mind reading the same book over and over on theory is actually better then a tonnes of varying points of view. Again thats me personally.
