If the on-board Wi-Fi is dead then you will need to purchase a USB Wi-Fi receiver, they're pretty cheap - probably about $10-$20 Canadian.
You could try re-installing the drivers for the on-board device, but if the Wi-Fi light doesn't come on when you turn the switch off/on then it's probably bust and normally it's built onto the motherboard so can't really be (internally) replaced. You can of course use an Ethernet cable as well, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop.

yes, agree with Jess. Check in device manager to see if the wifi is showing as a yellow exclamation mark (!) If so the driver reinstall may help. Also worth a look in your network devices...cld it be disabled? Its not the end of the world tho...as Jess says, get a usb wifi adaptor and just use that.

Is the button stuck in such a way that you can't switch it? Or does it switch fine but the light still doesn't come on? Let us know what yu see in the device manager, it'll help. You should be able to find drivers to install anyway just to see but it sounds like you'll likely need t get a usb one.

If your comfortable with it, and the warranty is over, you could just take the laptop apart and see if perhaps the switch is busted. Just be careful taking a laptop apart, they are VERY hard to service. Usually all of the switches/lights are all mounted right underneath the keyboard, which isn't that hard to get off.
I'd definitely say it's not a driver issue, if the light isn't even coming on.

At my work we are frequently taking laptops to do jobs at customer facilities, working on the shop floor under all kinds of conditions, and the Toshiba is a fairly fragile computer TBH. I think Jess's solution is simple and cost effective; I bought one of those USB antennas on Ebay a few years ago for my dinosaur PC that the kids use, and it worked out well.

hi, is it that hard to write a few lines in the blackberry? Having a complete keyboard, I have many friends telling me it is the best for those who have to write big texts in any place, not needing to be stuck to a table to put down the laptop.

The solution jess gave you i believe is the best with less hassle. I bought a couple of years too a USB wifi dongle for 8 Euro from UK (included shipping) and it works perfect.
The thing you should look for though is to have WPA2 encryption. Dont buy any WiFi unless it has this encryption

the whole typing part isnt bad on blackberrys, its the slow internet service and one pop up can cause minutes of waiting.
when i go into device manager it says "wireless capability is turned off" so maybe the switch is broken. ill taker apart and hope i dont break nothing thanks for the help and last question is i uninstall re-install the driver will i have to download something to install it? or will it still be someweres on my computor?

My bb is fine for the net, but rarely use it, Google now and then, but have you put the WiFi on the bb, makes things much faster, might even be able to see if its the router. The driver should be on a disc that came with whatever it is, you don't need to DL to install, unless you have no disc. And Dunotras' GF should be there any day now

So i see you did the old repairing method when we get angry with something and we start kicking it, swinging it etc. Its either you fix it or destroying it completely right ? It has helped me a lot in the past

You might want to try yelling at the computer too. May not work but you'll probably feel better.

It could be just a failed contact considering the wi-fi led doesn't light up anymore and you do not have other problems with your laptop other than that
Go to a local pc service and it could be a really easy fix, so keep us posted!!

If it's not the WI-FI and you check in the hard copy phone directory you can usually get a computer or related items checked relatively cheap, but you will need to deliver it to the technician. It's usually as cheap to have it verified by a tech as it is to buy a new WI-FI, but that's not including costs for whatever it needs for repairs. Good Luck!
