my best win is$26   0
I haven't been playing poker long only play 1c/2c cash games or low stakes sit n go. so when i finished 1ST in a SNG i was thinking i will just keep playing the same way and be rich in a few week.well i havent won a thing since then . i think i was just lucky i know i dont play well if i dont get a good hand in within 5 mins i try bluf all the time . is it time for a change i think so.

be patient, keep learning along the way. See what kind of formats suit you best. Don't expect to be rich in a few weeks, first couple of years its mainly about learning and adjusting your game

I couldn't have said it better myself. I mean, even the professionals say that they still have a lot to learn and still have to improve their game. Bottom line: you always can improve your game and noone will ever be a perfect player. Just keep practicing and you will eventually find a style that suits you! Smile

i have won highest only 19 dollars or so in SNG 1-table. i play alot 1-table the variance is not so nasty here even tho sometimes you get a couple of badbeats and runs into higher pairs Big Smile but yeah patience is the key, and as soon as you are not patient your making more misstakes i know it because i was doing it and im doing it myself, but im trying to avoid these situations, because you only bleed chips.. GL in the future though!

A week is a very very short time, either you win or lose at this time frame.
You need to have patience with this game, you cant get rich in a day.
Unless you finished first in a big tournament
Then unlike some others you can retire Smile

I play only micro stakes too abd my biggest win was certainly 170$ at FT in a SNG two years ago. I bought a SNG ticket in the ft academy and won to another steps to a 70$ SNG.

A week is nothing really if you understand the poker variance mate...

Now i would also like to know how many hands did you played in a week??

I'm pretty much the opposite since I rarely bluff and found things work out best for me that wazy. If you enjoy playing the $1,10 to $5.50 SnG's (which is my gig) then be patient in the beginning until the blinds are at least up to 50/100. I think your game would improve tremendously if you search through the threads and find the IslandJack wrote pertaining to the Micro SnG's. I know my BR hasn't been below $80.00 since abiding by the info.
Good Luck!

Good advice.

First of all congratulations oon winning $26, thats a nice little take down, but remember bank roll management. Don't gamble above your ability either.

Also don't get carried away with a win - variance so high in poker that it could be your first for awhile (especially if you are still learning) or another may be in the next SNG.

At lower stakes bluffing is least profitable - so simply don't do it too often and when you do, make sure its worth it i.e. bluff for a significant amount of chips. Don't raise 100 early, get called then raised all-in and shove also even with top pair on a board you're often behind, and then out of the tournament for the sake of 100 chips.

The most important advice to give you is Bankroll Management, without that we will get broke very soon, and try to learn other poker strategies all the time, because poker players are changing their strategy constantly.

That's awesome news, $26 is a pretty good haul for a low buyin tourney, and winning is definitely awesome no matter the prize, you're doin' something right. Were there a lot of people in the tourney?

It was already mentioned, but once more for good measure: Bank Roll Management.

The best trick you can do is to keep focused on the game. Good hands come and so, just as bad hands. The strategy is in trying to take advantage of the good hands and lose the less possible with the bad hands. Don’t try to rob with bad hands, better, try to take advantage of your position with those bad hands, showing your opponent maybe you have nothing bad in your hand. Oh and, btw, $26 is a nice value, I bet you will beat that if you keep focused.

you need to mix your style if you want to win in the long term, so that your opponents will find it hard to guess your hands etc... remember that taking breaks is also good if you feel tired and can't keep your focus on your game... gl Smile

Both BRM and having a defined time to play will help you.

You can have some patterns to follow such as:

-Don't play tourneys were your BR is compromised (Never more that 2%)
-Retire after losing a couple of rounds (You won't get it back, and you'll only become tilt and lose more)
-Have a defined time to play (ie. From 10 to 14 and 15 to 18)
-Play it very tight on first blinds levels, were the fishes do stupid things

And there are a lot of things to continue improving your game! You must read, and that way you'll become a more succesfull player.
