How can you think this is a good play???  0
I was playing in one of the PS Open school tourneys yesterday. These games usually have a huge field of ummm...lets call them "players". Just about ten thousand.

Anyway back to the story.

About 5 hours into the tourney. Playing very tight I am. I have about 400k in chips. The button is sitting out; and me to the right.

AJ off. Folds around to me. 3X BB. 18000. Folds to the big blind.

This is where it gets weird. Big blind goes all-in for almost half a million. He's got me covered. think think think....CALL

Flip'em....he's got J3 hearts. F**K YA DOUBLE UP....WOOT WOOT!!!!.....and then no.

How the f**k do ya go all-in pre-flop with that junk.

Flop goes JJ9....yaaayy me....

turn....10.....not any better but still ahead.

AND THE RIVER BRINGS DEATH AND DISPAIR.....F**KINNN.....3.

Now that there is a dream crushing hand.

I just dont understand how you can invest almost 5 hours of your time to shove with that s**t of a hand.

BOGGLES THE MIND.

I guess the push with J3s in this spot is better than a call for your tourney life with an easily dominated hand like AJ. In your position you can raise with a lot of hands, but only with a small portion you can call the push here.

LOL, that other player can be considered a river RATTTTTT Aww crap! Better luck next time

that's mystery of poker. I got it many time and never got answer when I ask why he did it. Is possible he bluff ? After your raise 3BB ? ( He thought you bluff ? ) or had strong instinct ? Was J3 winning card before ? Someone can explain ? Tongue Tongue Question Question

A typhical freeroll tournament hand if you ask me, i do not think you really need to think was he thought there because i suspect none was involved lol

On paid tournaments or cash games you can definately think about a hand like that...

You'll see a lot of this kind of movements in freerolls... Yesterday at bankrollmob freeroll in PS I got QQ and rise 3 BB. The chipleader calls, flops brings another Q and I bet 24k he pays... Turn 20k and plays and the river gives him the colour... Guess what cards he had? J2 Heart
Let me tell you that I didn't think he had Heart but I couldn't fold anyway cause I was pot commited.

You'll find a lot of fishes in Freerolls and all around PS.

Regards,
Aces.

I guess the question has to be, what did you think he had to go all in after you had raised 3xBB?

If you thought (and I think you are trying to make the point) that he should only have gone all in with a decent hand then you were wrong to call his all in as you expected him to have a better hand than you and therefore you knew you would lose your tourney life.

If you thought he was bluffing (which I guess he was!) it becomes a bit of a lottery as any hand can beat any hand called all in pre flop. But still, you cant criticise his bluff call. (Even though some would call him a bingo player!) (I'm still working on the difference between bluffing and bingo playing!) (LOL)

So! Overall, while your raise was a great call, the all in call on your behalf was probably a bad call, in my view.

Hmm, button was sitting out and he was on the cut off, so AJ is a pretty strong hand in that position. Considering its a freeroll, Im thinking the guy can do that with any small pocket pair or suited connector. But still, even against these hands its a race... You were lucky to be against J3, but unlucky a 3 came out. His bluff wasn't that bad, he probably thought you had ace rag and would insta-fold. But of course hes giving you his chips if you have JJ+. So in the end, both plays are bad if this was real poker, but it's a freeroll so you have to open your range a bit. You got your money in at a great time, and poker is a lot about timing. But you still had 27% chance to lose pre flop if his J3 was suited! Calling pre flop all-ins with ace high is definetly not the best way to win MTTs Smile

the whole hand was just bad...my play, his play ....the whole stinking thing.

He was very active at the table and I knew he was bluffing or playing bingo.

He was a chatter and thought that his play was great. I just wanted to shut him up...didnt work out so well...after the flop i was 90% plus to win.

oh well ...not mad at myself for making the call...just those miracle rivers for the underdog get annoying.

This kind of crap is just irratating to read sometimes. I know I've been playing some damn bad poker, but I read things like this and really wonder how I get the worse end of so many hands / games. Sorry should post some of my bad beats!

If you were playing tight and he is the table bully I can sort of see why he pushed. He's actually giving you credit for being a better player than you are cos there's no way a good player would be calling with A J, KJ, A3. He knows his rep at the table so the only way to win the hand is a megabluff that just puts pressure on you to fold. There are very few hands that you can justify calling with and he has live cards against AK and AQ.

However, I still think his play is slightly worse than yours. The chips he wins is way too small to justify the risk and I think he is too fixated on his bully boy tactics and his image to think about his position. He could potentially have lost 80% of his stack on a whim because the only hands that should be calling (JJ, QQ, KK, AA) have him completely dominated. Bottom line is there was absolutely no reason two big stacks should be making risky moves against each other.

Its amazing that he raises so much when you bet 18K
Its amazing that he does that with that hand !
Even more amazing is the flop with 2 jacks
So if you both where not all in you would be after the flop
And then the amazing river of course
AMAZING Shock

I know people hate when you come with bad beat stories here and like to blame you
Well this "person" was just an idiot and the cards ....yeah....amazing

Remember it was in a freeroll game where in my experience, (and everyone elses here it seems) anything goes. Lesson to learn....you paid nothing and lost nothing but pride. Pick your games wisely and your moves even more so.

Yeah. it happens. regardless of your opponent's hand you went all in with AJ off suit.you risked your tournament with trouble hands and thats exactly what you get; trouble.

I cant believe he goes allin with J3 and then fullhouse, hes very lucky. He does not earned it obviously. Next time you''ll win. Maybe he got tired after so many hours of playing. It still is a stupid move of him Aww crap!

I think you should check your pot odds.. Your hand it's not a monster and your opponent could easily have a AQ or better.. Even a pair of "2".. Situations that would dominate you or making 50%/50% of probability for each one to get the pot.. Play tight and call this all-in only if you got a real monster like AA or KK.. Better luck next time.. I know you learned with it and will play so much better next time.. See you!

sometimes u get punished if u call with a hand like that,,,

next time fold,, because,,there are also good players shoving all in with monsters in these same spots,,then what????

he prob. went all inn ,,thinking u would never call and if u do he still got a flush chance and prob.. he also thought if i am against A-K -A-q i got a jack wich can win me that hand...

very questionable play... very good result for the villian,,,
