This is really amazing indeed, our local tv stations also broadcast the festival live and you gotta love it Smile

I think all mobsters that live in London should participate, it's really a once life time opportunity Blink

WOW people in Canada and Romania are more bothered about it than people from the UK. LOL I'm surprised it gets any coverage at all in either of those places but more so Romania Shock I'm going to go out on a limb here and say not many people from the UK care about the royal family at all. I certainly don't. God save the Queen? You'd think a Queen who lives in luxury, has an army, is one of the richest, most powerful people on earth, and has had everything given to her from the day she was born. Doesn't need saving by anyone, let alone God. God save me, more like. Even better God save africa. F**K THE QUEEN

------------
Which pussyhole gave me a Thumbs Down for having an opinion? Sorry for having an outspoken opinion but at the end of the day its an opinion, not fact. So giving me a Thumbs Down is completely uncalled for and totally faggy.

It's your own fault Sadamman, you came on to strong, lol. I generally agree with you in principle, I'm not a big fan of the monarchy. I feel that all their wealth has come off the backs of their own people over the years and it should be returned where it came: The people.

However noting royalty is historial and interesting, but should remain that way, not at all political.

I know. I do honestly apologise for my tone sometimes. It's a character trait, or quirk, which isn't particularly a good one.

i agree with sadamman totally. no need to appologise for your post.
all the monarchy do is sponge off of the tax payers.

just imagine the cost of all the security and stuff that took to do that crappy float along? whats the point?
that money could of been spent reducing the deficit so its not took out of the pockets of the people who need it more. like the elderly and diabled.

big deal she's lived the life of luxury for over 60years. its not as tho she does much. what? gives out a few medals each year and makes a speech at christmas, which hardly anyone watches.

royal family? no thanks bunch of toffee nosed germans. (no offence to germans)

I've been working today and this whole holiday has been one absolute mess imo. No one benefits from having a five day weekend and even the pub I work in has done terrible cos no one can afford to have a five day bender and the pub has just had to employ extra staff on the off chance it might be busy but then let everyone finish early cos it's been dead.

As for the royals i couldn't care less. I'm not particularly anti-monarchist. I don't condone being born into wealth and I don't like the idea of privilege from birth but I accept it cannot be stopped. I think the queen is worth the few pence we each spend on her in tax per year even if the system is wasteful with regards to how we fund her ridiculous privileges. She does after all bring in a lot of tourism from Americans and other idiots, and does at least fulfill a role within the UK state. I would be happy though if she was our last queen. I lean towards the opinion that the monarch tradition is archaic and increasingly irrelevant, a part of our past and not our future, but right now it suits us to be a monarchy for our relationship with other countries and for economic issues.

I am however very fed up with this jubilee nonsense and I would be very happy for things to back to normal now please...

Yay, a Canadian says nice one Brits, and we go tare ourselves apart turning a nice thread in to a political debate, now what do they think of us?
I am no royalist, but am not stupid enough to say she/they are sponges, the make the UK what it is and is very actrative to other nations, which bring in tourism = money keeping us wealthy.
They DO a huge amount foe society, if saying they don't then you have absolutely no clue, the queen is very hard working.
You can't slag he for being born in to a family, just being born in the UK makes us very privileged, should the 3rd worlds hold that against us, look down on us?
It would be interesting to see a good argument to why they are pointless.
Personally I have not watched any of the jubilee stuff, because I don't have to, don't like it don't join in, not hard.

Actually, I'm not certain that the Queen gets money from the British goverment, I think they maintain their own affairs based on the wealth they obtained pre-democracy (not too sure though, maybe someone more knowledgeable can confirm?). If that's true then public spending isn't much of an issue.

Not sure where you're going with the third world countries bit. I see it as every bit as much of a problem that third worlders are born into poverty as others are born into wealth or power. I find it very annoying that wealthy nations take what they have for granted.

I agree with bigfoot all the way

@Arithmajik I think they do still get money from us but its pennies compared to the money they bring back in through tourism. They also do tons for charity and things like that which is good also the Princes trust thing which is good for people who want to start a business but dont have the money.
It would be a major blunder to get rid of them as the benefits of them far out weigh the bad Thumbs Up

Well I'm afraid I can't give you that. Cos as I have already said there are many benefits to having a royal family.

I think a lot of the money we spend on the royals is wasteful (the cars, the ceremonies, the hotels, the numerous staff) but that is part of the crap we have to put up with due to incompetent government and useless bureaucracy. Bur the royals are certainly not sponges. They are diplomats, charity workers, members of the british army, representatives of the UK and they have to live their lives in the public domain, to the benefit of media and tourism industries (and the very opportunist government)

But lets get one thing straight. Although the economy arguably benefits from a royal family, the cost of funding royal tradition is pittance compared to the cost of an irresponsible, wasteful, money-pocketing government, and the royals have several positive roles in the UK... that doesn't mean it's right for the UK to be represented internationally by one family who haven't really done anything worthy of admiration and have simply been born into a role. It's hardly fair on them that they have so much responsibility on their shoulders cos of who they are. It isn't right in this day and age that a democracy is headed by someone who once would have had godly right to rule, even if today the reign is more symbolic than political. But some uneducated folks around the world actually believe the queen is the UK leader and whether we like it or not the royal family represents all of us. That's why I think in the future the Uk will no longer be a monarchy.

I find it funny that most of us in the UK don't care about royalty, yet everyone else in the world believes we are obsessed with the royal family. It's odd that we benefit most from their fascination with our royal family when we only care about bank holidays, which by the way are not good for the UK when they all come together and are not in any case fair to all society. My main criticism I save for the shambolic jubilee celebrations I've witnessed. Not the queens fault, I doubt she even wanted to watch that awful concert, but was obliged to smile whilst we all got pissed in her honour. It really was a dreadful way to represent the UK around the world and anyway what the hell are we doing partying and throwing all this money at a celebration, just ahead of an expensive olympics, when the economy is in bad shape, more and more people are losing their jobs and we are all feeling the pinch of harsh cuts to much needed services.

Very true woodsy, to start our government(s) are all a bunch of jokes, and what tops it all is we are treated like fools and except it, it actually sickens me when watching them chat bolloxs acting like children, because I'm all right Jack.
I don't mind paying for cars etc, a lot of the tax I pay gets pumped in to london anyhow, so rather she got it than Government spending money on stupid things..so many stupid things and U-Turns.
I mean the government aloud the police force here to buy cars from abroad claiming it saves jobs..what about the British workers, we need to pump in to manufacturing, a whole work force was at risk of joblosse from that, why no intervention or subsidy.
And do agree it was a complete shambles and made us look rather bad. Aww crap!

Just to be clear, I'm not declaring that the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family be disposed of, just that their political ties be severed making them more of celebrities and people of interest to those who choose to be interested.

Our constitution doesn't allow this.
