The online poker market is really different from everything else. I don't know that much about the way markets work, but i know a supermarket can't decide to lower the price of one product more than a limited value because it will be considered dumping and this supermarket will be processed for doing it. At online poker, the supermarket is its provider, which means he is the one who decides the price of its products, so he can decrease or increase them any time he wants that it will never be considered dumping. And this way Pokerstars makes another great campaign. Probably, they made studies of the influx in the room during the year and realized June 17 was the day with less players in the year. With this campaign, even if the profit doesn't reach regular values, it will always be good for them if they can make more people coming to the tables. Another win-win campaign!

Yeah interesting insight Fakiry, could well be right.

There's a lot of people awya on holiday plus the WSOP in action so numbers will be down, plus PS will want to keep people coming to the site and maybe entice some new/ old members to come back.

PKR do this as well. It's just a marketing con. It will still reach it's GTD$, there won't be an overlay. Essentially it's just a cheaper buyin tournament. The prize-pool might be the same, but there will be twice as many entrants.

Pretty much what I was thinking as well. Going to be a lot of micro donks taking a shot at the big leagues, I wonder if the fields will play out a bit different than they normally would.

I was also thinking, with enough notice, this woulda been a great opportunity to run a BAP, perhaps put together a few buyins, and let one of our MTT beasts have a run at it.

If I had more of a roll, I'd even consider doing a private stake, but unfortunately that's not an option.

Some intersting thoughts on why this promo now and the consequence of reducing the buy in changing the face of the game, with lower stakes maybe less experienced players or even tighter plays as the buy in is higher than they would usually pay but low enough for them to join this once. Will watch my back with interest!

Yeah man every site does it, they make out like they're giving you something. But it pretty much always reaches the GTD's. Like the depositor freerolls, they're like "we're giving away 100K in freerolls for depositors." NO you're not, because you get 3 rebuys each for $0.30 plus an add on, and lots of people do all 3 rebuys plus the add on, its usually a 15k+ field, and only a 1k GTD tourney, you do the maths lol.

anyway stars do take a risk on this offer- they will be ok if the field doubles and essentially bring in the guaranteed prize pool themselves, but if the field doesn't show up (in the required amount) then it's stars who will have to ship the cash from their own pockets to cover for a guarantee, so worth checking the number of entrants

We know pokerstars have suffisent funds to make that kind of offer , a few millions is far from what they have on their bank account.
Anyway it's nice for those who usually dont have the bankroll to participate in those tournaments.
