Yesterday was one of those rare days in which i had the chance to play poker for more than 4 hours in a row, which is almost a record for me. Wife working, kid with grandpas, and me, alone in front of the computer. I started out with some SnGs, then i played some ring and bust out what i have won at those SnGs, and then i saw something nice to do at an afternoon like this. €3,000 GTD with €2.20 buy-in starting in two minutes and there were only 170 registered players! I entered this and only then realized it had lots of re-buys and add-ons and there was a one hour late reg. period. First hand AJ, two guys puting pressure, i went all-in against them and tripled my initial chips. Then things kept good for two hours. I was 19th in a 113 field when my wife called: "I'm leaving earlier from job, let's dine!" I will create a poll to see your opinion but, after talking 10 minutes on the phone, i shut the PC down and went to dinner. This morning i saw i ended up in 39th and won €10.50. Winner took €690 and 10th won €70. Restaurant bill was €27, on me of course!
Oh my god ... what a pity! Probably your wife doesn't understand you need your time to play poker. At the very beginning I had similar stories and I lost a lot of money sat out in tournaments. But she realized it was important for me and if she doesn't annoy me, even profitalbe. So she respects the time I take for playing poker.

Well to answer your question, wife comes allways first, unless we kinda semi-pro or higher, but if we amateurs wife is nr1. Happenend to me so many times, family comes UNannounced, and only thing i can do is to shut down all tables desperately hoping they leave in 5sec..... but they never do
nice decision...poker will always be there but intimate time with your wife happens sometimes only... You were having a good run there though...picking up the phone changes it all....lol.....there will be more good tournaments...

I liked your story. I bet those ten minutes on the phone you were trying to get yourself out of the situation The final outcome wasnt bad though. You had a nice dinner ( I guess) and it costed you only 16.5 euro. You could have won more but you could have lost without getting paid either

Based on the situation since I've been married 20 years besides the 3 years of dating. This puts me at 23 years and there's only one thing that can make a marriage last this long and that is, Her coming first of course, but there is some negotiating after this long.
Since outside dining has been a thing of our past we rarely do it. We are at an age where we enjoy cooking most all meals and if the kids want to eat out I still find myself eating at home. My wife has I have ate at all the great places from Chicago, Indianapolis, L.A., Vegas, etc. that I don't know if I'm burnt out or what. Guess I rambled on the opposite point to your question, but as for it, she'll always be first.

Funny thread.
The g/f, wife has to come first otherwise you might have poker but no girl.
I pissed my g/f off a few times and tried to wiggle out of going somewhere because I was deep in a tourney so i started donking - then she didn't get back from work for 2 hours!!! was so annoyed.
The long term variance is great with a woman but well worth it even though generally it is -EV...lol

Thanks for all your comments. At first, when i decided to create a poll about this, i thought it was going to be a laugh, with everyone joking about the fact that i decided to left the game in the middle of a good session, but after all you were all very clear about this. I even showed it to my wife, which now understands better the fact of having a husband that passes a considerable part of his day in a single site which isn’t Facebook!

Why didn't you tell her, you in mid of the game and have change to win good prize ? Is happend every weekend ? I think relationship between husband and wife is pure and total transparancy and full understanding each other I am single cos I know that I said is just fantacy couldn't or never happen ( ???? ) Isn't she agree you play poker?

Wives do come first, so i play poker when she goes to bed....its either sleep or play poker....... she even has me not playing poker cos of the kids, but they love it cos they try and call the hand before I do....missing something somewhere!!!!
