So many players I have talked to.... "I can't believe he raised with that...", or "I never play Ax...." You see so many players are constantly searching for the right formula or set of rules to follow, or something to help them play top notch poker. I am here to tell you I will play any two cards, in almost any position. I have a super aggressive style. Position to the button becomes less important at my table, as position in accordance with said aggressive player becomes more important. When an aggressive player is sat at your table it changes the dynamics of the game. Other players will limp to the aggressive player with big hands, hoping to trap. Which changes the meaning of limping at a table with an aggressive player( limping then does not always measn weakness) Playing this style has some advantages & some dis- advantages. I mostly prefer this style bc it's much easier to get paid on your big hands as you are playing so many pots & your range is so wide most players have a difficult time reading your hand strength. Another thing I like about this style is it keeps you on your toes. you must have pretty good reads on your opponents, to be able to know when to abandon ship so to speak. You see if there's one thing I've learned about this game in my days of playing its this. Poker isn't a game you can wrap up & put in a nice little box. There is more than one right or wrong way to play a hand. If you don't get caught bluffing once & a while you're playing too tight. If you yourself don't get bluffed once in a while, then you're playing too loose.
One last personal note: I absolutely love sitting down to the table with a self appointed poker know it all. They're ussually the worst players at the table. Doyle Brunson once said Texas Hold Em takes two minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master. I know I'm no master of the game, but I try to keep my mind just a little more open than the average bear. Everybody has its own style, i mostly play the same style, multitable a lot, wud problably have a higher roi if i just play 2 tables but my winning rate will also drop, also rakeback ect (not that i making much rakeback nowadays ) There are times that i play any2 and play like a maniac if table dinamics are good.

Nice thread Hoodi. I like to play in the same way as you, but at the moment I seem to have lost my edge. Knowing when to put on the stops!!
My favourite about playing like this is when you get caught bluffing and still manage to win the pot. All the names come out like "donk" "idiot" etc, but who has won the pot, so who cares !!
Anyway GL to you and hope you are finding some action after your Government has basically f**ked you lot up.

i think in the end everyone must choose the way of playing at which they are feeling comfortable- forget all the tips and strategies of the "pro's" or read somewhere in the books- ultimately if you are not feeling comfortable with your actions at the table- don't do it- don;t play the way someone told you to play- play the way you enjoy to play

Confirmation bias, you've took this quote completely out of context to support your premise. He also wrote two books super system 1&2, which indicates he does think there is a right formula, or a "super system."

Hey Hoodi, as an aggressive player what kinds of strategies do you feel work well against you? I always find tables with really aggro players a lot tougher. I try to decide befor I act if I'm willing to play the hand hard before even engaging aggro players.

You can be super aggro in good and in bad way. 99% of people do that in bad way. Spewing chips and calling weak draws and always assuming that people reraise them because they are sick of being pushed around. And those 99% of people make possible to beat rake and earn money. There is small amount of super aggro players who know what they are doing, who use aggression with purpose not just because they want to be main dudes at table or to annoy people or because its so much fuuuun. To know which one are you I would have to know your profit/losses or to play one longer session at your table...

Thats the MOST important thing - its far too easy to get caught in trying to play like Dwan, or Brinson or Gordon or anyone who has written a book.
Guess what? (it's taken me a little bit to realise) everyone has a different style for a reason - you can try to be as ABC as possible, but you'll STILL play different to me if I play ABC.
Some people are instinctual players (me) others are far more analytical, some combine both aspects well.
Put simply you can't learn poker through books alone - take the things that mean something to YOUR game and apply them, experiment a little with styles.
If you're a learner and develop as a player, then you will have many styles, like a kung fu master - you HAVE to be able to adapt to a table and the players at it. Playing tight will work against low level inexperienced players, playing loose often won't, but it all depends on who's at the table.
Forget everything you ever learnt - it's like the old saying goes, play the person not the cards.
Nice thread......i like to play against aggressive because im also aggressive..this style is really if you got lot of stacks in tournament and lot of money in cash games....yeah knowing when to stop in situation is hard to do because of chips committed in the pot....anyway, I am still learning poker and looking forward in improving my game....
