maybe he meant something different- it can be that the guy just wanted to be sponsored more than the money itself- so let's say a sponsorship package of $0.01 would still mean that he is sponsored and even more- maybe sponsored just means: given some good encouraging words, like: you suck, you're a loser etc. when he hears such words maybe he is "sponsored" in a way
