It took me 2 years, but today I had my first MTT win  +1
Finally I won one...

15 Jul, 2012 WPT Cyprus Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy $1 finished 1st of 48 won entry to WPT Cyprus Satellite Qualifier Turbo ($38)

Usually I play bigger fields (600 - 10000), but I won a ticket for this one.

This kinda solves the question whether I like rebuys or not...
Actually I sort of hated them, for not knowing how much it would cost. But I also felt I should really like them, because there's only a 10% fee on the original buyin, and all additional rebuys and the addon are free. This should make it more profitable (especially when the other players rebuy more often).

In this case I rebought twice right at the start (first 10 minutes or so). By the time the addon was available, I was chip leader with over twice the stack of number 2, so I declined the addon.

I kept the pressure on, and stayed out of the way of the small stack all-ins, so I kept this lead all the way to the end (I was able to steal a lot from the medium stacks).

At the end, I just waited for the last four to take each other out, since I had over 2/3 of the chips, and they were roughly equal.

Thanks to the BRM community! There was some talk about rebuys lately, which encouraged me to rebuy, after being knocked out twice so soon in the beginning.

Doomdy deserves a special mention for this... Thanks!

Congratulations, I hope you get the WPT pass in the satellite. A good strategy with rebuy-in is essential at first stage of the tournament. Keep posting telling us your progress in this satellite.

Congrats, but now you have to do well in a probably much bigger field of more experienced players to win entry to a WPT tournament ^^ Satellite winners are usually tough opponents. So good luck, you're gonna need it Smile Keep agression on your side Blink

Good to hear you play well in the rebuy.

I've been attempting these type of games lately and have managed to place once, but not a 1st for sure. I've been trying to learn when the best time to get in opn the game, how many rebuys are to many and just see how I fare.

Never played in any satelites either so congratulations and as stated, keep posting your results on the run.

Congratulations on your win.
First step is always easier since the pressure is less Smile
The next one is the hard one knowing that if you lose you will have to ace the previous one.
I wish this is not the case and you will get the ticket. gl

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

I actually have no expectations for the satellite this evening, other than gaining a little experience.

I usually only play freerolls; that's how I got to play this one, by finishing 3rd of 3500 in a freeroll (and on the same day I won another ticket by finishing 4th of 436 for the summer million qualifier).
And of course my biggest result 2 weeks ago: http://www.bankrollmob.com/forum.asp?mode=thread&id...

I'm pretty pleased with how it's going lately, but I have absolutely no experience playing buyins over $ 1.

@Serpang: I don't multitable much; only freerolls, at most 3 tables at once.

@TheMachineQC: I'll try my usual LAG style, with switches to TAG when I'm caught to often, but I have no idea if that will work at this level. I do play my monsters and bluffs the same way, so I hope I'm not too easy to figure out...

@GreenMohave: Yeah, I followed your thread about it. For what it's worth, I started at level 1, and rebought twice.

@doomdy: I had your comment in mind when I decided to rebuy the second time: "dont be scared to rebuy lots and lots (if you scared then dont play this one)"

Well done. Great result. Keep us posted with how you get on this evening in the main tourney. You will find it a bit harder maybe than the one you have just won but good signs nonetheless.

Well, sadly that did not go according to plan.

I busted out after only 15 minutes, calling an all-in with top pair against a flush draw semi bluff. He hit the flush. I never should have called that one, for most of my stack, even though I was almost a 2 to 1 favorite when the money went in. It's not something I normally do. Probably overcompensating being so far out of my comfort zone...

Still I had fun today, I would not have known what to do with one of the four $350 tickets, that were up for grabs, anyway.

Too bad that you didnt make it, winning one of those tickets.
What to do with it after winning one wouldnt be an issue Smile
Now the bad thing is you have to start from scratch again.
Better lauck this time.

And this WPT Cyprus ticket you got, is it already the main event or still a satellite? I am just asking because it seems a little low value. But it’s always a great victory, you can imagine the amount of players who would have loved to win that ticket. Congrats!

Nice one man! It always feels great and does'nt matter how long it takes. You have some fighting spirit, unlucky to lose with AA and get busted out. Never mind, next time you win Cool
