It was Valentine's Day in Februrary this year when 25-year-old poker pro Jason Somerville revealed to the world, in a blog post, that he was homosexual. In a recent interview, Somerville talked about why he decided to make the announcement at that time.
"My boyfriend suddenly told me that he wanted to join me to PCA (PokerStars Carribean Adventure) in January. At first I was like "hmmm", an[...] Read more » Daniel Negreanu helped Jason Somerville come out of the closet

i think its terrible that in todays day and age its still a big deal for someone to come out, wether your in the public eye or not. society today shouldnt create that pressure on people. i mean people dont choose to be gay its just how they are, so why should people make other people feel like they are a second rate citizen or that there is something wrong with them?
im not gay myself but i certainly dont have a problem with gays or lesbians or transgender or anything. people should be able to be comfortable with the way they are.
good on him and to anyone else who has been or is in that situation.
Who cares about their sexuality, they're poker players Look how Vanessa Selbts is doing and you'll see that gender/sexuality doesn't mean anything in poker. Poker is all about making logical decisions.
But still, it must be hard to come out of the closet when you've been hiding it for so many years and you're famous. Good luck to him for his pursuit of happiness I would be happy enough after winning 3 millions playing poker

Oh well.. homosexuality is so not mainstream nowadays anymore .. i believe so :\ good pointing out selbst.. i was going to write about the only problems i could see involved with future sponsors or whatever because of image but the selbst thing just talks for itself.
Anyways.. i guess this has more of a personal impact than in the poker world.. lol @ Negreanu Godfather of poker.. when people have problems .. they talk to the boss. :x

What can be better than feeling happy with his inner self and, at the same time, knowing that he isn’t put apart by an option he made? Of course there can be some poker bulling now, if there was before by other reasons, this will be jus tone more way to try to confound him when playing at the tables.

Yeah exactly.
I think it really shouldn't be a big deal at all for someone to come out and I reckon in say 40 years or so it'll be normal, people won't even give a s**t.
The trouble is it all starts at school and with parents who create the idea that being gay is a terrible thing - so I guess when someone grows up with that and then it turns out they are homosexual themselves it can create a barrier for them.
Live and let live - I'm sure he'll continue to do well at poker. In fact I'd be interested to see what effect he has at the table because a lot of guys aren't comfortable with gay people, so I reckon he could gain some sort of edge.

i like the type of persons like daniel- simple to talk about anything, don't make problems out of small things, or indeed don't make problems even of big things- they are just being honest with themselves and do not put extra pressure on people- really big thumbs up for daniel, even though the news is not about him alone

Posted by Macubaas: I was always interested in the poker they play, in their spare time everyone is free to do what they want...
I think this is part of the monden news of poker but for a serious poker player this has nothing to do with the game they play.
But there will always be some players which can pick this type of info to try to shake the opponent at the tables right? Think can seem like a lack of fair play, and other players at the table can even try to turn bad comments into second plan, but the person in question can feel affected. It shouldn't be like this, but i can remeber of a few great names of poker (no need to list them) that could talk about this just to try to win a hand.

Concerning football players or other kind of public figures .. i imagine some of them dont really feel the need to public admit that they are gay .. and ye i kinda agree in a colective sport like football it must be hard to do such a thing coz your success depends alot on the teamplay and the way others deal with you.
Anyways gay people rights and general is huge nowadays things are evolving at such speed rate that in 10 years this wont be even a subject todiscuss.
