As far as I know, you can't change it since the time in the site is the current time where the servers are placed.

I'm only one hour off so I'm better of then you jess Tongue You should be like 9 hours way, right?

The clock says 12:51 GMT

GMT is the important bit. In the Uk it's currently BST, which is one hour in front. GMT is constant all year round and is used to describe time zones around the world. BRM is based in Malta I believe but they use GMT for the calender, the mob safe, the forum, the freerolls. It stops the time confusion since BRM is international. So when they say the calender goes from midnight to midnight, or a freeroll takes place at a certain time, people know when they are talking about. The BRM clock helps you work it out so why would you want to change it to your clock?

Ps it's a minute out cos the clock only changes when you refresh the page

Actually you can display all date and time information in the timezone appropriate for the particular user, saving them the trouble of needing to convert GMT to their own timezone, but the site needs to be programmed for this (it may get a little bit tricky when you use page caching though).

This only leaves the problem of forum users mentioning a particular time in their posts, they would still need to specify which timezone.

If the users are okay with GMT time, it saves the developers a bit of a headache, not having to deal with this. Lots of websites choose a particular timezone, and leave the conversion to the user (Party Poker for example).

I for one, would welcome correct localized times to be displayed...

Why? What would the benefit be? Do you not have a clock in the corner of your computer screen, which you can set to whatever time you like? As said above the reason for the BRM clock is so everyone can effectively communicate time of day to each other. The programming your talking about is fairly simple but unnecessary and even counter-productive.

There is no such option here in BRM.
Some sites do offer that and it helps sometimes.

Where is very helpful is in poker sites. You dont need to start converting the time
to see when the tournament starts Smile

Mober already answered the question for the most part.

In general you want resources that are used by many people to be as user friendly as possible. Converting the time is a small headache for each user, each time when it's needed. Aggregated over many users, over time, this becomes a huge headache.

It is simply more efficient for one developer to spend some time to make it right, then it is for thousands of users to to spend a fraction of that time each time they access the resource; it adds up...

For me GMT is relatively easy, since I'm familiar with it, but lots of users don't know that in summer time, the time difference is not the same as in winter time.

Other websites use their local time (Party), which is worse, because you then have to find out the difference first...

I see what you're saying except we are talking about a clock that appears at the top of a forum. I agree that in party software it's annoying and could easily be solved by a little time from the developers but the purpose of the BRM clock is to unify all users with one time, not to tell them what time of day they posted.

You see, if the clock was to show localised times, you would also have to configure the forum to use that clock (ok that's easy enough) and then change the freerolls page to automatically show the time for each time zone (causing a lot of confusion in the forum and support when talking about freerolls) and change the calender so that either a day is different for each country or so that the instructions automatically note the time difference and the same with other mob games. Cos if BRM didn't update all these things, the members would need a clock to show them the time things happen to help them work it out - which funny enough is what that clock is.

10hours actually (That's AEST) and when we save daylight and go into (AEDT) it becomes 11hrs behind GMT.

You can't change the time of the site mate, it is not possible, thats the GMT time Blink

If you always know how many hours your country is behind GMT you can always calculate easily the time Smile

You don’t have to, and you can control it even being different. For instance, you know you will only have 5 comments paid for each 24 hours. If you want to control this, you just have to take a look at the hour you did your last post before you comment on the next day. About the freerolls, you will easily find a online time converter, or you can simply go to the poker room and find the tourney in question: for exemple, PS lets you find a tourney by the number, it’s just copy and paste.

Depending on the site on which you play there may be an option in settings or options to set the time to your own or any other random time zone that you fanc playing in...... have a look around the site ...but not here on BRM by the looks!

You probably have figured out how to convert GMT to CET by now, but thank you for illustrating that it is not intuitive for new members.

It's not that I have a vested interest in displaying times in the timezone appropriate to the individual user; It's just my professional opinion that usability issues gain importance with the number of users (and BRM has a lot of members).

GMT has at least 2 problems; every user needs to convert it to their local time (even users that live in greenwich), and DST changes the offset twice a year.

I'm not of the opinion it's an easy fix. For instance, you can't reliably infer the timezone from the client's page request, so it would need to be a per user setting. Also you need to inspect all pages where times are displayed, to see if you need to change them to use the configured timezone.
If you use page caching, you'll probably need to add the timezone as a parameter, unless you use clienside javascript to do the conversion for you.
Depending on the skill of the developer this could easily be a few days work.

Poker Stars has time Zone Settings, Hover cursor over the time at bottom of PS Main Lobby, text says "click Here to change Time settings" and then u can change time zones.

I use this too calculate/convert time's ET to NZT or NZT to ET or GMT etc
some thing like this be good feature for BRM clock! Thumbs Up
