Greetings BRM! Today I wanted to try out something new.
in a NL 5 speel poker game I buy in with 20BB's. Rules: - from button, SB & BB. Shove every hand to an open raise from Hijack or later. - For the rest solid plays (That solid play has been rated profitable for me over enough hands.) - Leave the table once you hit 30 BB's.
My session was 138 hands. I shoved 13 times in total and got called 3 times.
Is this strategy profitable? Let's do some basic maths (not exact maths.)
Every succesfull shove will give you 4.5 BB (Avg of 3BB's open raise) Every call will put you around 33% chance of winning.
In this session I was called 3 times, and won 1. (even had my money in better than 33%, showing they do somethimes call losely.) So I lost avg of 2x 20BB and won once a 18BB (lets give rake the rake )
So: - 22 BB + 45 BB (shoves)
=> profit of 23 BB's in 138 hands, without involving any other play. => 16.7 BB profit every 100hands. Plus getting a rather lose image, which only will profit you later on when you don't use this strategy.
PS: This was a trial session. These statistics could be FAR off. Never do this on much higher limits, more sharks, more notes on you. Unless you can counter that by abusing it on the sharks.
Thoughts? Or other people willing to try this and post their statistics? (I tried this way under my bankroll, so wouldn't mind losing the $$ for statistics )

very nice to see someone trying new things- interesting strategy, very attractive numbers, if you decide to give this another go, post the update, maybe this was just one of those sessions anyway, hows your long term bb comparing zoom to regular poker? hear most regs complaining that bb drops a bit on zoom

Sounds pretty exploitable to me. Short stack strategies have been around for a long time, and some people have put a LOT of work into doing the math equity wise. Just shoving ATC from LP doesn't seem like it would be a solid strategy sorry to say. Mind you, in "rush" format ring games, players tend to be a little bit more nitty, but a 20BB stack doesn't really have a lot of fold equity against someone open raising to begin with.
I'd be interested to see what results this strategy would bear after a significant sample size. I say try it out for around 3-5k hands, and see what your stats look like then.

just wish I could give it a shot. used to love playing the RUSH poker on FT, but don't think I'll get the opportunity to do it again for quite some time.
Would like to hear more about your experiences or opinions playing the new ZOOM or Speed poker that's in relation to the old RUSH. Will be watching for posts and Good Luck!

This sounds very interesting to be honest! I wouldn't mind trying that out myself sometime but for the moment, I'm saving up on freeroll winnings to enter an $11 tournament

Interesting idea and strategy, but more hands are needed to say it will be profitable long term. Nevertheless, where did you played this ? There is an additional problem: Not many rooms nowadays allow players to buy in with 20BB. Checked this yesterday on Stars: Minimum Buy in for Zoom is 50BB

If you can do this again and told us how it went it would have been great. Not bad as a strategy and if it works i may give it a go if and when Full Tilt reopens. It was the only place where i have played so far the fast thingy

I’ve never read strategy for zoom/rush poker before i read this thread. All the others before were only “hope you get good cards” and “beto n the aces”. But this is a true strategy. Ok, you tried this time, you got these good results and you come to present them as a strategy, but you advice this is no rule. Perhaps its better to try it, at least, playing 1,000 hands, this way you will have ten samples of 100 hands to show and they will better substantiate the resulto f your research! Good work

I have to agree with you majority of people applied this advices when they played rush/zoom poker but the funny thing is that from all these fast games the highest winning rate that i had was on rush lol
Not sure why but i'm really looking forward to move back to rush once FTP is up again
