The maximum you'd gamble on a 'sure bet'  0
If you could gamble anything with 99.5% chance of winning and the prize was anything your heart desired, what would be the maximum you'd be prepared to gamble knowing there is a very small chance you'd lose?

How far would you go? You're house, you're dog, your life?

for 99.5% chance I would wager as much as I could get my hands on / borrow.. No ones life or health though, chances are still too high for that.

For a 99.9999999999% chance I'd wager my life against $500M

edit: To be honest I would wage my life vs $500M for odds shorter than that.. Certainly not for $99.5%, but anything where it was a million to 1 in my favour or better I would be willing to listen to serious offers of money vs my life. Way I figure, we chance it like that just hoping into a car, riding a bike, etc. If I was otherwise going to be immortal, then I wouldn't wager my health/life against any sum for any odds.

You obviously post quite late UK time and not many others are about, whereas I'm just starting my day and checking my facebook, forums, email etc.

Same as, grab all the dosh I could find, chuck in the dog too.
My life, depends on the RB deal, I have been in a few situations were the odds were lower, so for the right price.
Not sure if that list is ment to be in order of value..but my pet would come firs, just saying.
pet
car
salary
house << I stop here, unless you have a good offer.
life other than mine(not a unknown)
my life
blue

So what would it take before you're willing to risk it all (blue) ?

I don't think I could, assuming blue in this case would be some sort of massacrer rape sex vid with Admin, I would have to walk away.

so we win/lose a big tourn depending on our emotions
leaving us as a rich/poor man
now considering what we will gamble to get more
Reminds me of the card player.. I do hope you don't have some one tied up woodsy.

I would bet everything including my life in an instant without a flicker of hesitation. For anything my heart desired. With the wording of that as a prize, that's infinite wishes. Once in a life time opportunity. So it must be worth your life then? No brainer.

would not say it really is a once in a life time opportunity..1 in 200 will die making this bet.

"sure bet" is a combination of bets that cover all results posible,so 1 bet is never sure no mater how low is the odd.Placing the bets require live betting or different bookmakers. The amount of a single bet depends on how much you can loose without to go insane or bankrupt.

For anything your heart desired is once in a lifetime. That could be anything. You could even make a lupole and wish for your hearts desires to never be unfulfilled again.

well if the bet would be a horse racing bet with the mighty frankel in it...i would bet everything on frankel (it'a 101% sure bet Smile)

semantics.. In this context - it's like when somebody uses a figure of speech "it's a sure bet". It's not literal.

Exactly. 'Sure bet' is something gamblers say to justify losing their house, often they say it about a lot less than 99.5%.

It was supposed to be in order but I was thinking more about emotional value.

Actually, personally I think I'd rather risk my life than a house if I had one. Losing your house in this context implies homelessness. I'd rather not be around to regret everything than live on the street. Hitting rock bottom is kind of worse than death.

On the other hand maybe I could sell my story to the press and come back as a big celebrity. I don't know if I'm bending the rules too much but they are my rules so f**k it. Evil

I am no gambler so have to fold this.
But i can imagine being poor with no future you can accept this even with your life even with smaller odds.
Wud a drug-addict accept this bet 50/50 on his/her life? Yes i think so.

Definitely would bet anything other then the life of an individual or even my dog. I really care about my dog since he's been through enough human abuse to think that I would ditch him for a million bucks.

On the other hand, I'd have to see the offer and money involved to see how I'd really feel about the situation. I do have some family that I'd like to help out, plus there's always some needy children in every city.

i'd bet the annual salary and the car i'd probably throw in the dog aswell Smile

if the chances are 99%+ i would go for all money i have, plus savings and all the money i can borrow from bank- plus if it really was 99%+ well this would practically mean that you can easily go to any hedge fund manager and they would offer you any sum you request- just to good opportunity to pass- btw in any case you must set aside a lump of money to cover 6 months of your expenses- all other can be thrown in

whats the story behind that?

99.5% = almost certain to happen.

There's a 99.5% chance of rain for example - I'd bet a tonne of money on that, everything I have (which isn't that much).

as for my life...well that's pretty stupid but depends on the win of thr situation.

I definitely wouldnt bet the life of another person.
