Is it just me that is having the problem with the quote function in posts?

When I quote someone's post it puts their words in a quote as normal but when I press return to start a new line and put my comment it takes me to new page and says 'error page not found.' I don't want to leave the page i'm commenting on or finish my post but it just takes me as if I tried to post it.

It just happened again when I tried to start a new line in this post. I guess it's not just the quote button that does it. I have to click back on my browser and reply again to keep typing.

Anyone else affected by this?

Yeah I've been getting that for a few days.. I've been using a slight work-around, I've been pasting the quoted text into notepad, typing out my reply, then just pasting the whole thing back in for my reply as a single block.. Obviously that's a bit annoying.

I'm using Windows7 & Google Chrome.

Luckily generally when you come back and click 'reply' again it restores everything you had already typed (normally).

True but this isn't today's poll. That'll come later.

This is really annoying though as I like to quote part of other posts a lot. Luckily I discovered that it would remember what you had done if you went back and replied but not if you went to the page a different way or pressed the quote button instead. Since it's clearly not just me I hope they fix this soon. I don't like not being able to start a new paragraph lol. Big Smile

You could make it a poll...

I just tried and nothing happened here (Safari).

But I think it's because of the search box in the upper right corner. On "enter" it will take you to the selected search results (useful if you have used your keyboard up/down to navigate the results).

Problem is, it's harder to fix if I can't reproduce the problem, so I can test a few theories etc.

Update: Not even in Internet Explorer 9, I can reproduce the bug.

Oh dear.. if IE9 can't replicate the bug, then that almost means it's our fault!

Don't give up yet, human jess. I found the bug in Safari now. It seems that if I first try to remove some text from a quote, with backspace, and then place the cursor elsewhere and hit returns, it happens.

Found it: If you use arrow up/down keys anywhere in the "message" area, followed by enter, page will reload to "not found". So I just somehow have to make sure that the up/down keypresses are only captured when one is using the search form in the upper right corner.

So it has nothing to do with the "quote" itself.

indeed.

Grats on finding it.. I always use the arrow keys for text navigation! No wonder I was getting it so much.

That make's sense. If I quote I usually edit the irrelevant bit out so that's why I noticed it.

I just tested it and I think I can get round it now by changing the order I write my posts.
