Starting playing hyper turbos again  0
So after a brief venture into playing Stars' 50/50's (and doing horribly I might add) I decided to go back to playing hyper turbo 9mans, as that's what I used to play on FT, and I was really good at them.

I totally forgot just how swingy they are. I'm playing them with around 60 BI, which I'm not fully comfortable with, but I'm just sick of grinding out normals, and I can put in a lot more volume this way. Very close to clearing a few bonuses, including a milestone bonus, so I think I should be okay. Once I clear the bonuses, I'll have a comfortable 100 BI, so long as I don't get smacked hard by variance.

On that note, it really does seem like I'm running way below expectation. So sick how many times I got it all in with a bigger pair and they hit trips. Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Just the nature of the beast I guess, I realise this format has a SICK amount of variance, so I'm used to the swings. Doesn't make it any less frustrating though lol.

yeah hypers are really swingy, i used to have a go at them when full tilt was alive Big Smile played hyper turbo step tournaments there and i must admit i quite liked them- in general hyper's have some advantages- you get end the result quicker, you can multitable easily, you have better chance to achieve something like supernova or any equivalent in other rooms- but you need big enough roll and patience to handle them, not to mention be at least a break-even player

I have played a couple of times the super turbo sng's on ipoker and i must say
i hate them. Too fast blind change for me with kinda rushed decisions Smile
Havent managed to cash in any of those, unlike with normal ones.
gl with your new venture.

I understand that the nonturbo games are boring. But the hyper turbo games having a big variance. I´ve tried the hyper turbo hu games with abc poker in the micros, but it is not so easy to win longterm. I was often a 60:40 favorite or better in allin situations, but i´ve got unbelivable sucks and lost the most games...

The variance is to extreme in these games which means there is little skill involved in them. You will never reach a long run playing hypers there all luck and crapshoots. Who wins is about who gets the best hold cards over 10 hands.

Gotta agree with this^

It really is about the cards as opposed to any reads or skill - if you chip up early days then it's great.

But the blind structure usually creates AI shove fests with rank hands.

That being said they are quite fun to play depending on your mood.

I just think that the average player is elevated in 'ability' as the blinds help them out, it's almost a handicap.

I don't agree with you guys completely, you can be a winning player in these although with a pretty small edge, anything above break even is good. There are systems like ICM that you can achieve that with, I heard there are even better systems than ICM but I never looked into those. If you are a break even player and grind the 30s or 60s (8 tables) its not hard to reach Supernova elite on PS and the rakebak and bonuses from that are well worth to quit your daytime job Smile But yeah the variance is huge so you need the bankroll for that.

I logged into a site I've not been on in years.

And I'm hooked on the hypers Retribution Big Smile

Mega swingy but there's so many idiots looking to cash quickly that I came out with $6 profit having played around 15 times in one table SNG's and won the last two which were crucial.

Have to say I really like it. I'll see if i can build on my success.

Got some really bad beats but you get them anywhere in poker.

What's your name on there? I'll watch out for ya since your treading on my turf Smile

It isn't hard to make a profit playing them, all you need is some knowledge of hand range concepts, and ICM. For example, knowing what range a person with a VPIP of 40 is shoving, vs what range a person with say a VPIP of 20 is shoving.

They are quite formulaic, and it's an entirely different strategy than normal poker. While some don't consider turbos to be "real poker" I think it requires a lot of in depth elements like I mentioned above, something your average player has no clue about. The reason they are so profitable, is because the majority of players have absolutely NO idea what they are doing, and try and play them like a normal SNG. It's quite common to see 3 people open-limp and then fold to a shove, which is just dead money.

Sure you have to take the insane variance with them, but the increased volume you can put in, as well as the shorter sessions make them my game of choice Smile

I've just started getting into the PKR Super-Speeds; blinds up every hand. Just the $6 6max ones, yesterdays session ending $30 down and today I ended $65 up.. Very swingy lol.

you got a point, actually even two of them Big Smile increased volume lets you achieve greater vip level, while shorter sessions lets you fcuk more babes, because you have more spare time Big Smile still the issue with these is what stakes to play- even the best players have something like 1-3 roi longterm, so rake at smaller stakes is a serious issue...

Goodluck with the hyper turbos, im not a fan of them i dont do very well with the big binds and small ammount of chips, it can get on my nerves very quickly which can lead to bad things
so i stay away from them.
goodluck at the tables and have fun

Deep stacked play requires a lot more skill than short stack play.

playing deep stacked requires one skills, playing short stacked requires other skills- it's like comparing beach football with regular one and saying than one requires more skill over other...some people specialize in hyper's and do well only in them, other's hate them...that's life
