Vegas coming to Europe  0
Europe's Vegas style development is set to enter its next stage after Sheldon Adelson decided that Madrid would be the city for the project.

The casino billionaire picked Alcorcon, a city in the greater Madrid area, as the place to build his $35 billion casino resort.

Once completed, the complex is expected to comprise of twelve hotel resorts, six casinos, as well as golf courses and a sports stadium.

The project, which is expected to create the largest gambling site in Europe, could have an initial opening date of 2016, with the final construction ending in 2025.

While the latest step looks to be a positive move for the resort, there are still a number of challenges facing its development.

Aside from the testing economic conditions, a number of local laws will need to be relaxed in order to create the "Vegas feel" Adelson is hoping for.

It sounds verry good and a casino in spain are verry nice. OK i prefer a little las vegas at the coast but madrid is also good. I have about that one year ago and hope the euro crisis allowed that project.

Interesting location but quite smart as well. A tonne of British people travel to Spain and it's a popular tourist destination anyway.

Seems an insane amount of money to pump into a project all the same. $35b in this economy?

I imagine Spain will ease their laws very quickly knowing that much investment is going into their country - Spain's economy is shot, there's something crazy like 50% unemployment now.

The bad thing is casinos are not good for people in financial hardship - the dream is to play and win big but it never happens bar the 0.000001%.

Vegas can't be too happy!!

Well for sure that is not something that i would expect.
Ending on 2025 its a very long time for something to wait. Smile
Some times i wonder how it really feels like when people go
under such long term goals.

Can't wait to visit the new facility. Need to revise the passport and save at $20,000 or I won't be able to enjoy myself to the fullest expectations. i mean, if I'm going to go to Europe again I not oly want to gamble a bit I want to toole around the continent to see some of the sites I haven't seen and revisit some I have. I love the old world with all the history it holds. The artwork, buildings and wide variety of foods are all charishable memories to have.

LMAO at the old world.

What you say is interesting because for all America's trappings it doesn't have much of a history if you talk of the white man immigrating there and time since then.

Native American history is very rich and interesting but people forget about it.

It still amazes me however that the USA is only 200 odd years old.

With then desertification going on is Spain, they can even build it in the middle of what will by then be mainly desert and give it a real Vegas feel.

On the point of ages of countries, America has been there as long as everywhere else, its only us in the 'west' with our small minds about the world and our domination of it that leads us to comments like America is only 200 years old. Though I acknowledge Noon your comment re USA!
