Superstition  0
Hi, today is 9/11, we all remember what happened 11 years ago, and i've already read somewhere that some poker players will avoid today to play hands like TT (Twin Towers) and other stuff like that. I don't know if superstition is the right name to give to this thread, because it's related to something that really happened, and somehow people are afraid that it can happen again in another place in the world. Somehow there were already other 9/11 after that one, like that horrible thing in Norway. The thing is: are you affraid that something may go wrong with your game in a specific date? Like if you knew the devil was looking at you in that specific date? Evil

Of course not; superstition is stupid. It's just that you can't say that out loud, because you'll jinx yourself...

I think this is not a theme for a poker forum. To much guys thinking, they can make a joke about this tragedy. But this was a drama for all people which lost a family member at these day.

I don't think there's any reason to be superstitious about anything like that today. Sure, some people may think that and hey, I'm not complaining! That might just help me win a few more hands so as far as I'm concerned, keep the superstition up! Worship

Of course, I do sympathize with those who lost a family member or a friend or maybe even both. It sure was a tragedy and my heart goes out to all those who suffered from this!

Unfortunately there are some horrible people in the world that do horrible things and something as bad is probable to happen sooner or later. And because of the significance of this date it is more likely to happen today than yesterday or tomorrow or the day after. That doesn't mean it is more likely to happen this week than any other week.

In any case this has nothing to do with poker. Cards do not affect anything other than the hand you are playing and are not influenced by anything other than shuffling and if you believe differently you are an idiot who shouldn't win at poker. I agree actually that 9/11 is not appropriate to be discussed here.

To be fair, I don't really think that 9/11 is the main theme of this thread. I would think that it's how superstition could possibly affect yours or someone else's game. And really, we're not discussing 9/11, only how some people actually think about superstition and 9/11 just happened to be the example here since it is that date today and some poker players have announced that they're not playing hands like TT.

I don't think for a second that Fakiry meant anything bad by it so please try to see this thread for what it really is: A discussion on how superstition may affect the game.

Of course, if I have misunderstood the purpose of this thread Fakiry, please feel free to correct me!

No, I.find having a superstition about something is setting yourself up
For failure. I recommend keeping a straight mind and dont use superstition in your
Game play.

As I already said, cards are not affected by and do not affect anything except the hand. I honestly struggle to see how good poker players can be superstitious although I am aware of pros who walk around tables before playing and have to be the last person to sit down. I don't think anyone in this forum will actually believe circumstances can affect cards except maybe redvulture who thinks people from one country are luckier than others. Shock

its 11/9 not 9/11....and im superstitous but something like that doesnt come into superstition that was a terrorist reprisal attack! absolutely nothing to do with superstition!

if that was the case you wouldnt play 7/7 after what happened in the UK or any other incident that happened on certain dates..imo it was along time coming anyway.

but poker being poker people have to look for reasons to play or not to play certain hands, i would certainly fold TT if flop was AAK...lol

I have some things that i could call as superstition while playing poker
but none include a date or an event.
I even play on Friday the 13the which is considered a jinx day.
Even more i play Tuesday the 13th which is the official Greek jinx day Smile similar to Friday the 13th Smile

absolutely no- superstition doesn't give you any +EV, so it's not a thing you should practice in your game. though interesting idea you told here- avoid double 10 (twin towers) lol, it's kinda hard hand to play anyway, most of the time if u don't hit a set you have no idea are you ahead or behind
