Only MTT's for 1 month  0
As the topic says, I'm going to play nothing but MTT's for 1 month. This is just an experiment to see what type of player I really am. The next month I'll be playing nothing but SnG's and the next nothing but CG.

Anyway, this month is only MTT's. I cashed out just over $100 that I had on my account so I'll start from $0,00 and work my way up from freerolls. I will give you daily updates, even if I haven't played anything.

I live in Sweden so technically my day started about 3 hours ago so I started by playing a $250 freeroll and placed 68 out of 8000+ I think (not sure of exact numbers, on my phone atm) for $0,30.

I feel tempted to take that money onto a CG table but I'll save it until I have enough for an MTT. I'll try my luck at a $1 tourney but haven't decided which one yet. Anyway, you'll get daily updates around this time every day unless I would happen to get a job in which case I'll report in when I can.

I must say that I'm really excitet to find out what type of player I really am!

Wish me luck! Big Smile

I don't understand why you cashed-out your bankroll forcing you to play freerolls Confused

Pretty interesting stuff if you ask me, in my case it lasted about 6 months until i found out what games i really like and make the most profit.

But here i need to give some credit to jess too, i do not understand why do you want to go from zero Confused

Zero is a bit tight. You should have at least kept $10 and hit a load of cheap $0.25 mtt. You can easily end up blinded out or lose to a suckout on freerolls due to the shove fest nature of how how people look at these tournaments. If this does happen you have to wait ages to play again. Well good luck. Subscribe to see how you do.

i don't see how you can find out what type of game is best for you by playing freerolls- ok first month you can play mtt's for a possibility to cash via satellites etc. but what about next month- how are you gonna see are u good in sng's- via freeroll sng's? or the next month- cash tables? play money tables?- kinda no logic plan...

Well, I kinda had to cash out. I got an unexpected bill which I was 99% sure that I've paid already bit when.I look closer into it, I had only paid 1 out of 2 bills. If it would have been my chois, I would have left $30. And in any case, it rarely takes me more then a week to get a $5 bankroll from freerolls so I won't lose that much time. I'm thinking about starting counting when I reach those $5 but I'm simply just to impatient.

Anyway, the following months I'll just use whatever money I've made from this month and I'll probably put up a limit of say $30. If I lose it all, that month is a bust.

I think it will be hard to get any sort of positive data from this. There is a huuuuge difference in beating a freeroll, and beating an MTT. theoretically they are the same thing but when there is no value invested, and no risk of busting, the play has no seriousness to it even in the late game you are playing against opponents that are typical of the ones they would be eliminated early in a regular MTT

I don't mind your challenge of grinding it out from 0, but call it a 0-(goal) challenge instead of which type of player am I. the only plausible conclusion you can come to from this is that you prefer to play for money than freerolls.

with a BR of 30$ this could be an effective test. a months play or until 30$ lost. this may be short-changing MTT's again because of the variance. But at micro stakes variance is a good thing to avoid anyway.

if you find out you can crush MTT's with little variance from your sample size, then it would be profitable in the long run. do the same for cashgame (should be no brainer to play low variance here) and SNG's. (type of sng plays a large factor as well)

Just my 2cents. GL with your goals. goals are always good.

GL for your challenge and rebuilding a little bankroll. Sometimes it brings new motivation to play with a other kind of games and after a lot of suckouts.

Good luck on your endeavours.

I think you'll find the MTT month most frustrating - you're gonna have to run very nice to make any sort of decent profit and the swings are mahoosive.
If it's strictly no buy-ins i can see you might be able to build a solid $10 roll. Because you seem to have the knowledge most freerollers don't.

SNG time - more fun in some ways - how many person SNG's you gonna play?

Cash game - good to save that till last. For a start you'll need a good roll to succeed. And secondly it's the toughest to master in many respects, there's no end point, so you have to be the master of your game totally.

I agree with what others have already said. In principle a good way to find out what format of poker you are best at would be to play a month of each type but your plan really doesn't work until you have a large bankroll. You really have no way of finding out what you are best at. If you go by how much profit you make in a month you will obviously stand to win more money by playing reasonably well at 5c/10c cash games for a month than by playing a month of freerolls really well. You can't compare roi as a % as this will presumably be different from $1 mtts to $5 mtts (not to mention turbos and rebuys) and if you start at zero then roi is meaningless. And you can't compare anything else like the number of tourneys you win. All you can do is guess, which type you are playing better and/or enjoying more.

Just to add one more thing. I don't think you need to limit yourself to one format. If you have less time you will want to play an Sng over an MTT but that doesn't mean an MTT isn't better when you want to kill a few hours cheaply. They all have their merits even if you are better at one than the other and in many ways they are not comparable.

I see what you're saying so I might just move this up a bit until I've made a nice bankroll of $30. As I said in my previous post, I didn't really have much choice in the matter of cashing out what I had so it might be better.to.get started in building a small bankroll before I take this on.

I will use this thread to tell you about my freeroll winnings and I'll start this challenge on the 1st of october with whatever funds I have!

Thanks for your input guys! Smile

^Graham has a good point here, there are poker platforms where tournaments are more profitable and sites where cash games are more profitable...

Erru, on what poker platform you'll play? You'll build up your roll on a smaller site and deposit on a bigger platform with better poker traffic?

GL to you with your plans. I guess I know how you feel.
I am playing online poker for 1.5 years now and I am still not sure about the fact which games are best for me.
I am mixing all up by playing MTTs, 50/50 Sngs and Cash games (Zoom) as well.
Maybe I should start a similiar project Smile

My case is like this, win a few cents in freerolls and multiply in sport section and than come back to play SNG double up,and cash out.Not always I can close the circle, loosing the bankroll at some point.
But never give up,I want my money back Cool

Good luck in your try. But I more suggest you play micro buy in MTT than freeroll since you had good result indicate you have talent and luck. Too many variance and bad beat at freeroll. i just worried you spent your time.

I wish you will like ELJEFE. Play freeroll and had wonderful result.
Do you ever see leaderboard ?
