Input on MTT's First Attempt  0
Since I've never played in any MTT I was wanting to make a go at playing in a few to get the hang of it. For a beginner what is best one to start out at? I feel I can hold my own in a poker game, but never playing in any MTT what are some starting factors?

Limits to play in?
How many players is best to play with(4 or 5 or stay at a full table)?
Are there a lot of donks / fish in MTT's?

Any input would be appreciated!

hi in MTTs you cant select how many people are at your table. you are talking about Multi Table Tournament right?

if you have never played in one before try a freeroll that way you dont risk any money, in MTTs there are a lot of donks/fish

what site are you going to be playing at?i think MTTs are good, if you place in top 10 you are in for a good cash Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

goodluck at your 1st attempt Thumbs Up

Expect a lot of donkey plays in the early stages. Patience is the keyword and when I say patience I really mean patience. I usually play less than 10% of hands for the first hour to an hour and a half.

Even after that it's rare I'll finish a tourney playing >15%.

For instance, as I'm typing this I'm playing an MTT where I'm sat in 68th position out of 542 with twice the average stack. Starting field was 1932 players. I've played 9 hands out of 102.

First play freerolls, then you can start with lowest buy-in for a SnG... 6 players, then 9, 18, 27, 45, 90, 180, 360... after that you can play MTT with lowest buy-in like 1$ :-?? $0.9+$0.1 fee wish you all the best Thumbs Up

I guess I'm a bit mixed up! I"m thinking about the multi table cash games that are at various buyins with players ranging from 2 (HU) to 9 players generally and there's lists of these cash games.
I raraely play more then one game at a time so now as you can see my inexperience with poker terminology is shown. I guess I was thinking MTT's were about playing several of the cash games at one time.

Sorry about that Teddy for the misinterpretation, but I play bit better then some of the lingo. For example: I don't know what +EV is or utg so maybe I need to find a book.

Are you sure you never played any of this Greenmohave? It's almost hard to believe, after reading so many of your experiences, but after all looks like you are a real single table player. So here's this: First of all, concentrate on the action of your own table; you'll start all with the same, some will start going up, others going down, you have to face it as a single table. Then you will be move to another table, poker room decision, and you'll be starting everything from the begining, with other players and other chip amounts. That is one of the biggest difficulties in an MTT, when you start to get to know your opponents, you will be challenging others. Don't mind about reaching first places soon on the game, as far as i am used to play this, my best achievments on MTTs were always made with me being in the middle of the rank, but being able to keep there till the end. Don't care much about how many chips does 1st guy has got, care about yours and the oponents on your table, those are who you are battling!

If you want to play multi tables cash game you need a system of how to play pocket cards, than you need another monitor to see the tables better, more attention, tear drops because eyes are more solicitated and so on..Good luck

Imo allways start full ring MTT and no 6max.
Just play uber tight in beginning, its a bit like SNG, kinda same ICM, be prepared to go bust or deep, never play to cash.

i'm gonna enlighten you:
MTT: moving towards tits
+EV: +extended vagina (+ is in place of "like" Blink
utg: uncensored threesome gangbang

I think the most fish players you can find on the tournament tables actually...

Tournaments are a lot more complicated compared to cash games or even sng and also they have a higher variance(you need to have at least 100 buy ins for the limit you are playing!). My input is limited since i do not play mtt but there are mobsters that can post better advices.

its so funny reading all these posts with everyone telling green to play such and such tourneys. Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap!

***NOTE TO ALL*** bit of further reading wouldn't go a miss...he corrected himself and stated he meant multi tables cash games not MTTs.

Green hope you get the info off some of the regular cash table players, i know of some other places were you get all the info you need, but i believe it is against forum rules to do so..but just google and you will find all the info you need for 1st timer multi-table cash tables Smile

i know from some friends who play up to 26 tables at a time. they make plenty of cash but i think it is very tiring on their eyes.lol

good luck Thumbs Up

So I should stay away from these cash games for the most part and continue with my SnG's and single tournement games??
I will probably take this advice since I was lost as far as reading my post topic. I was thinking MTT's were playing 3 or 4 tables at once in the cash games, but I guess I've been playing in MTT's all along other then I've never played more then 2 buyin games at once and maybe 1 freeroll. I just can't focus on 3 or 4 games so I'll just play what I'm used to.

personally i like to play 1 MTT and 1 cash table, some times i'll play 2 MTT's at once if they start around the same time and have similar blind structures, one more thing to adjust to if you're playing multiple mtt's at the same time.

i suggest to start 2 cash tables $0.01/$0.02 then add a couple more tables and see what you are able to manage playing at the same time..then just grind and see if you can manage it...if you can and are making money then try upping your limits until you find what you are comfortable with Thumbs Up

personally i can manage 3 cash tables at once but when im playing MTTs i can manage around 5 tables.(strange)..lol

goodluck Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
