colours of poker chips  0
Very last minute poll of the day so just something I thought about quickly. Those of you who play live may have had the experience of playing in a new casino and getting the chips all wrong. When we play regularly we get used to certain colour chips. Even if we play several places I think we always associate the same colours with expensive chips. And it gets really weird when one casino inverted the order.

In my home games it's green, blue, white, red, black.

Actually never have played with any other colors then red, whit, blue and black so I really don't know much when using any of the other colors. In our home games we use the colors as follows:

White = .25
blue = .50
Red = 1.00
Black = 5.00

This is the basic scale used since no one is generally betting high dollar amounts. Also there is rarely more then 8 players so we fare pretty good. Everyone buys a minimum of $25.00 in chips and it's all up to the individual as to how much they want buy above and beyond the initial $25.00.

When i play home games it's :
White = $1
Red = $5
Green = $10
Blue = $25
Black = $50
If you want play at casino, there's a lot of colours :-?
Black always the last
But if you don't want too many colours you can play only with $100, $500, $1000 and $5000, you can forgot about the : $1 chips, $5 chips, $10 chips, $25 chips and $50 chips.. best you play with money on hand Blink

Yeah, most live games I've played have had green as the lowest. Regarding which *should* be lowest, well - I'm guessing it's pretty hard to be anything but subjective answering that, I'll go with 'white'.

I like white ones with red dots all over it.
Also green ones with blue stripes on it.

to be fair i don't see any difference. and couple this with a fact that chips which are worth least aren't the ones you are extremely interested in having in your stack...but if i'm pushed would probably go for sh1t color- since they are worth sh1t they must be represented with appropriate color imho Big Smile

Never played live in a casino so i have no idea of about the usual colour value given.
When playing home games im restricted to the colours the set i bought has so in a consensual way we decided that the lowest would be the ones we have more of.
White, green, red and finally black has the highest value.

I don't think there is a usual colour for each value across casinos although it would certainly help if they could all agree on one order. But most casinos have their own printed chips so you can't cash them in different casinos, they also have different colours for cash and tournaments and to make them all distinct they have to be multi-coloured and use similar colours in different combos.

But when I first played with a home game set I would have used the same logic, less chips for higher values but some chips would be in the same number and of course you'd end up losing some so it wouldn't be in any way fixed. Though since then I've always had white as the lowest value, although oddly enough I can't recall a single casino that has all white or mostly white chips.

For me blacks are always £1 in cash or 100 in chips and usually blue or green or both comes between white and black. Orange chips are normally 1000 and colours like purple and yellow are higher since they are rarer. But yes this is purely subjective and every casino is different.

Voted white, but i wonder why there isn't green on the list. By my experience it's most common along with blue and white.
Haven't been to many casinos with live dealers but those i have visited had different kinds.
Black is reserved for high value chips from experience and special kinds of chips feature gold, silver, platinum colored chips.
Yellow, orange, red, brown variations are reserved for the middle value.
Cheers.

When we play homegames , I ve never been to a casino yet...

We ignore the color of the chips, each chip has just a certain value and each player buys in with the same amount (eg 10 euro = 100 chips --> 0.10 ct/chip)
Rebuys are always possible.

I think there s no need for using several values for homeplaying games.

Only in torneys with more players were blinds increase it is usefull

Surely white chips should be worth at least.. I think it is based on color spectrum... You know what I mean? So white color is lowest in that spectrum, Black color is highest... Smile

Wow.. you each have 100 chips on the table to start with and then buy in more. That must be a very messy table and very hard to keep track, see how much is in the pot. Maybe if you're playing limit it's not so bad but if you want to bet 3 euro+ that's 30+ chips. Also 100 blinds assuming the blinds are 10c/10c rather than 10/20c is quite short for a cash game and there would be just no way that my home games would work with 1 colour of chips. I can imagine you would find casino cash games very hard to adapt to, but if your home games work I suppose you don't need to change it.
