In a live game would you rather......  0
In a live game that you have never been to before, therefore you don't know anybody there. Would you rather act clueless about the rules of poker, or continue normally, with everybody probably grasping the fact your pretty adept at poker?

The reason I'm saying this is, I sometimes go with my dad to live games. When we go to a new one, he does this shameless, almost Alan Partridge-esque, act of not knowing what to do when the blinds come to him etc. He thinks hes amazing when he does it you should see his face.

Hiya

Personally I would act as a noob. Probably because I am - I hear you say. The fact that I have never played live poker it might also help me if I make a stupid mistake.

GL to all mobsters and hope to see you at the live games soon. You'll know me I will be the one calling out of order etc..............

I would act normally. With that said, since i was never in a live tournament, normal may be something totally different of how i act in front of my pc playing cards. From what my friends say i cant make a bluff face so i guess i would suck big time playing live Disagree

I do not think i would act like a noob but probably many will think that this is a better option...

also think it really depends on what game you play, on tournaments i do not see why, maybe on cash game you might have an edge on big pots/hands.

Haha. I've come across dickheads like this. Hey, you're never been to Swansea have you? They do this whole ott idiot impression and inside you're laughing at them. Then the game starts and you don't give them any less respect unless you are an idiot. Of course they tend to be ultra aggressive players too, which gives away the fact they are not really newbies just long-term donks. I tend to quickly catch on and then I play them like the shark-wannabes they are. Cos if you think acting like a fool increases your win then you're not really confident in your ability.

What really can you expect to gain from acting like this. Not all newbies call hands lightly cos most are aware of the hand ranking, in fact I would say the opposite is true. New players don't play that many hands and never raise preflop. So putting on this act won't make people pay you off more. They are probably less likely to bluff you if they think you are new but that doesn't really help you. As a good player you should be able to read bluffs and win more chips from this. Also because you are over-thinking what your image is you probably will get confused and end up calling everything.

Definitely stick to playing your normal game. How else can you be sure to play your best game? If it works in one casino why wouldn't it work elsewhere? Why would you try something untested and something that makes you look like an idiot?

No offense to you or or your dad of course.

None taken. My dad is a donk idiot. hehe you've just completely summed it up in a piercing way.

Nah I've never been to Swansea. I've only played in places around Liverpool, and in Southport once once or twice.

Really? What's the one in Southport like? I'm planning a trip there in a few weeks. I usually go to Manchester but the drive back is a bit of a drag. I live in Preston so Southport's closer. Pitiful that Preston, which likes to think of itself as a city, doesn't have a casino.

Oh and play your usual game never act like a noob.

The mint casino in Southport I went to, it was something like £20, £15 for the pot and £5 to the casino or £15 for the pot, £3 to the casino can't remember exactly. On a friday at like 7.30-9 can't remember exactly there either lol. I would be able to find out though. There was like 4 tables of 9 there. But my mate said there's usually more.

Oh yeah you get free sandwiches and chips on the break. Blink

I wouldn't want anyone thinking i'm novice. I'm not used to play like that. i think it's much easier to get into people heads when they respect you, want to outplay you specifically. It's also easier to read your opponents that way when they face you 1 on 1. Too much respect towards anyone in poker is very bad in my opinion. Cheers.

It's been so long since I've played live and I've only played live a few times. Mostly with friends or family on get togethers or like I said I learned initially as a kid while spending a few weekends in the slammer for beer.
I would probably be nervous around strangers and may even appear donkish, but it wouldn't be puton. I need to get away from the electronic poker one of these days and venture off to a casino to give it a try.

if anything throwing out a bit of poker knowledge occasionly at the table actually earns you a bit more respect and also has the added bonus of people wanting to keep you around in case you impart any other pearls of wisdom, never actually give away any of your strategies though just keep it general, like a hand you saw on the wsop etc.. or a read you had on a particular hand Blink

Havent ever played live poker, besides the one you play against the dealer
and the fixed wins according to the winning hands.
I would act normal, as normal can be by playing for the very first time live Smile

I think I would go for the normal way, because, in order to do what your father does, one also needs to be very good with the disguise, or else he can be caught soon and, if the tourney goes wrong, one can become the motive of others laughs. “He thought we would fall on his trap and, after all, he felt on his own”. So, going normally, one can do good or bad, but even if we get out soon, others will only say “you did what you could”, realizing that’s all we know about the game.
