Which move is the most common post flop move for a player who wins an mtt. Check bet fold or raise? Obviously ideally we would have good cards everytime and raise but thats not likely. So given a typical tournament where you win what do you think is the most common action. Preflop it must surely be fold unless we play more than half of all hands. What about post flop? I guess it depends on tourney structure so let's say a standard mtt.

I would say you need to do all of them. Check/raise Check/call. I have never won a tourney without running a huge 3 barrel bluff which most people will fold all but the nutz to after 6 hours of play. Sometimes they dont work but over the long run its profitable. Of course my biggest leak in poker game is not how i play its more physiological its bankroll management and tilt which causes me to win significantly less than i could. One bad beat is all it takes sometimes to put me on monkey tilt.

if i have to pick 1 of all options ,,i'd say bet...better steel many small pots ,,then lose a big one..

if all is correct ,lateron in the tournament you'll get your big pots...no escape

me and the fold button are very close preflop Big Smile but post flop i pretty much go ahead and c-bet 90% of the time early to middle of the tourny. middle-late i will check-raise alot more because people will try and take the pot for a lil bet more often because of the amount already in the middle.

....I think the answer OVERWHELMINGLY, is 'fold'.

If you're running good, as well as can be expected - around 25% of hands are raisers, around 10% limpers and the rest in the muck pile. You can't bet your way to success in a MTT.... patience is all important.

I gotta say I'm shocked no one else has gone for fold.

I play relatively tight and very seldom raise. I seem to colect more chips from hands that are the nuts versus scraing away players with raises. maybe this is a bit awkward, but it's the habit I developed so it's became general practice. Also, I may check on the hand if I'm holding the nuts based on other players actions.
My friend bitches at me about how i to raise more often, but I see so many players that raise pre-flop, then end up not hitting therefore losing more chips then necessary. I am still a beginner for the most part so I may have to change this practice.

I just checked my poker tracker of MTT I won....

When action was on me I.....

Fold/Check: 72%
Call: 5%
Bet/Raise: 23%

I'd say the trick is not to flat call very often......

i'd say bet,you can win a lot of hands by just throwing a bet in,if you get raised and you don't have anything then you can just fold. i think.

I think it should definately be a bet, i mean if you are a good player you need to play good hands which it means that you already bet pre-flop so it's normal that after to flop to make a c-bet Smile

The second option would be fold actually, you better fold than continue and hit call...

The continuation bet is important, but it depends what image you want to have. A very tight player like John Juanda can have good resulsts in MTTs, and a very agressive player like Isildur1 too. So I don't think I can really choose an answer there. When you have a strategy that works, just keep using it.

Really this theory is based on Chips stack, if you're chipleader after 30mins with ~500blinds... i think you can't play fold or check... you can raise all hands.. i think this is the right move, steal a lot of blinds with any two Big Smile

well i think you can win or lose an mtt doing absolutely different things, playing differently and evry tourney can be/and is a new story- you might have a decent strategy and try to stick with it, but it can be affected by so many factors, so i would say what i do most is stare at the monitor imho

I think betting post-flop is the best option.
If you get raised you know what your opponent can have (or he s a real bluffer) (2 pair or a set)
So the main reason for a bet is to see what your opponents have or not.
a call you should watch for flush or str

It also depends on how many hands you play pre-flop --> very tight or more loose

bet is the best option and fold when you feel that your hand is beaten.....Betting will give you more opportunity to win a pot rather than checking or calling....

Agree. The most is fold/check, 2nd is raise 3rd is check raise. Tight aggressive is good as preparation to bluff
Smile Smile we always need it, right ? especially at card dead time and blind high enough for our stake. Smile
