Poker Stars !!!!  +2
Well- I've finally decided to play primarily on Stars, I've had an account there a long time, but have only ever play on there a handful of times.

So - I took most of my roll off PKR, although unfortunately was a bit broke IRL - so was only able to put $200 onto stars, anyway - that's OK, just play the micro SNGs/MTTs for a while.

Basically I finally got sick of the low traffic on PKR, plus a couple other annoying bugs and such that they take far to long to fix. Going to miss my VIP stuff (VIP manager, nearly diamond level, birthday and xmas presents, rake back, reloads, etc).

But - the reality is I just can't feasibly play on PKR anymore - if I want to play SNGs for example, I have to get up at around 5am just so there's enough traffic for them to fill. During aussie time, I can literally wait an hour just for a $6 6max SNG to fill !! pretty useless.

First crack at stars was awesome, played about 20 hyper 6max $3.5 SNGs, roughly broke even, but the awesome part was just how quick they were filling ! They were filling up pretty much as fast as it took me to register in them! When i first jumped on, there was over 200,000 online: unbelievable, compared to PKR these days, normally around 5,000 or so peak and like 1,000 aussie peak !

Anyway - pretty pointless thread. But it's a big plunge for me, Im giving up a LOT at PKR - I do quite well there because i have a lot of notes, know the regulars, plus get pretty good bonuses + rakeback. But the traffic just ain't cutting it any more.

Thumbs Up

yeah jess bold move- liquidity is a major issue, i played some lesser rooms too, but was annoyed with the low traffic which resulted in waiting & waiting for players to join the sng's (sometimes even hu). stars maybe lacks in rb if u play at lower stakes, but they have reload bonuses 3-4 times a year, some special promotions where you get $/tickets for just depositing- so it all adds up...

well, once I've played for a year I should be Super Nova, which I believe equates to some kind of rake back.. But it's kinda s**t since they track it Jan-Dec, so won't have any kind of decent VIP until .. s**t..Jan 2014 :O that's a long foooken time.. Australia probably ban online poker by then Sad

well actually just by reaching platinum you are entitled to something like 25% rb, and you can reach platinum in only a month, so this is a start.
just wonder, you mentioned that your put $200 into stars account- are you expecting to reach supernova on this roll? or is this just for starters?

Yeah i agree...if you want to use 200 to reach supernova you cant do that with normal BR management.

And multi tabling lots of sng's can eat up that 200 very fast if you on a downswing.

Pokerstars is really the daddy of them all and the point about tourneys filling up really quickly is a really vaklid point which saves loads of hanging around..... I played a couple of SNG's on PKR last night and was hanging around....but on PS it'd fill pretty much straightaway..... but dont have enough in PKR to make it worth transferring yet!

Yes u can. You only need to avoid big swings in first few months. If he plays 3,5$ games this month, multitabling 10 at same time and in 5-6h a day he can play like 200+ of them every day. Its 6k of them in month. With 5% Roi and value back, bonus... his bankroll after one month could be 1k$. So with little luck, He could have BR for 7$/7e easy. One more month and he is in supernova possible zone.
Ofc, there is lot of things that can go wrong and you need lot of grinding hours to do it but, in theory, it is possible.

Well I wish you the best of luck mate. I am going to give you the single most important piece of advice I every received, It also happens to be the best advice I every got about winning poker tournaments.
I posted this on my Blog one and everyone who read it and sent my a message about it all really liked it.
The advice came from Phil Hellmuth. It went like this...

Always remember that a poker tournament is a marathon not a sprint. Nobody ever won any tournament in the first hand, but you can sure lose one in the first hand.

What this told me was to always look at things in the long term picture. whenever I forget to do this I get into trouble. sometime folded pocket aces pre-flop is a good fold. espectially if 3 people have already move all in ahead of you. Live grow stronger and fight another day.

I hope this advice help you. I know it saved me more than once. Cool

Regarding Super Nova I am mostly basing this on my average rake at PKR each month.. Assuming a similar volume of play, I'll be able to reach Super Nova with plenty of time to spare.

Regarding doing it with only $200 - I think it would be easy enough, just a question of volume really. Just play $3 SNGs, say hyper-turbos 10 at a time, you would get there plenty easy.

However my PKR roll was much more than $200, but unfortunately things have been a bit rough financially so I only moved across that mount. However - the road to SN doesn't start until Jan 1st, I am hoping by then I will have ran it up a bit more, otherwise should hopefully be able to move some more across.

That said - I really don't see a problem with reach Super Nova, using good bankroll management, starting with only $200. Just a matter of putting in the time, moving up levels and of course playing at least 6 tables at a time (preferably 9+).

Thanks for your well wishes, however - I strongly disagree with your advice, except in circumstances like DoNs or Satellite games; where there is no top-heavy prize structure.

But generally speaking - in a normal MTT - folding AA prefloop in any situation is truly awful. Don't be scared of busting out - there's plenty more MTTs. The way to earn good tourney money is to run deep in a few, not min-cash in many.

Stars is the no1 in a lot of categorys: traffic, support, seriously and so on. But the big problem was the rivercard... To much sucks like at every onine poker room. So it is verry hard to be a winnin player. Rake + suckouts = - ev...

I'm sure you'll let us know how you're getting on; It'd be interesting to see how well a shark from the PKR "small tank" fares in the "ocean" that is PS...
I both wish and expect you'll do well...

You can’t compare PS to PKR in terms of crowd, it’s obvious PS will fill any game quicker than any other site, they are the biggest, the most known and the most popular. Perhaps in a few weeks we can assist to a similar move in FT, but I guess it will still take a while. You lost a lot by leaving PKR, but if it was that hard to play there, because of the conditions, I think you did well.

I just played for a while at PKR recently and if you a MTT player who likes to play lots at once it just isnt the best site.I played more cash with 1 or 2 tournaments on the side but PKR just insnt for me.
To few tournaments and to few sng's at 1 level

Yeah- it's pretty hopeless now.. It *was* better, it's lost about half it's traffic in the last 12-24months and it's still declining.
