I just played for a while at PKR recently and if you a MTT player who likes to play lots at once it just isnt the best site.I played more cash with 1 or 2 tournaments on the side but PKR just insnt for me.
To few tournaments and to few sng's at 1 level

Yeah- it's pretty hopeless now.. It *was* better, it's lost about half it's traffic in the last 12-24months and it's still declining.

And I believe reason for that is 10 000 chips on SNGs and ridiculous blind dtructure. No serious player likes that. But I guess they like to have 100k losers on site then 200k losers with 20k winners

W00t - came in 2nd out of 647 in an $8.80 game for about ~$720 - BR quite healthy now Big Smile

------------
Reached enough points now for "silver star" VIP next month too, which I guess means I get slightly better rewards than bronze. Don't think I'll make gold or platinum though this month, got a LOT of uni work to do, plus I joined half way through the month. I think next month though I'll aim for Gold status, then hopefully by January I should be able to hit my target / platinum each month and hopefully, save Aus banning poker or any crap like that, reach Super Nova Big Smile

Aim will be to not spend any FPP until 2014 and hopefully by then I'll have a good stockpile and will be able to buy all the SN cash bonuses and such.

Save for the porsche, it only costs 3,000,000 FPP.

Nice result by the way. Thumbs Up

Looks like your switch to Pokerstars is working out for you Jess! I just came across this thread so wishing you GL and build that roll to the sky. Dollar Dollar Dollar Dollar

After a long time at 888 and just occasional forays at PS I have been playing at PS a lot lately, mostly $1/2 studHI and zoom NL25/NL50, and having a pretty good upswing as well. After FT went offline 888 got a lot of new players, but now that FT is back the numbers seem to be lower. Keep us updated. Smile

Sounds like you're kicking some ass.. I'm trying to stay away from the cash tables, although I did have a couple VERY small zoom sessions, just coz. Short stacked the $1.$2 NLHE games and basically hit n run it lol.

I think I'm going to grind the HU hypers.. put in a few hundred so far and doing pretty well.. In theory, they're basically a gamble - there really should be any edges big enough to beat the rake.. But luckily the rake on the hypers is pretty low and there are some truly awful players - basically a large amount of the people I've played so far just don't understand shoving/calling ranges at all.. particularly calling ranges.. Also people do really weird 3bets pre that just dont make sense.

So I've found there's definitely edges to be had and it's great for grinding up a VIP level.. I reckon I should be able to get around $30/hr multi-tabling the $7 HU hypers. I'll post back with results once my sample size is a couple thousand, but so far it's looking really promising.

I just love how quick the games get going on stars.. coming from PKR where if I played during aussie day time there was often only around 1,000 players online!! It's just amazing clicking any game I want and a second later the table opens.. Makes grinding SNGs a really viable option.

Obviously I'll play MTTs as well - love the variety on offer, I feel like a kid in a candy store. The $8 game I came 2nd in today with 650 players ran mid-after noon aussie time. On PKR an $8 game running at that time would literally get around 40-50 players :o

Hi Jess, as you seem to prefer the sit-n-go options, although you play the "bingo" versions e.g. Hyper turbo's short handed. Have you tried to play one of the shootout games, they also play short handed, 6 players, normally turbo, not hyper turbo. If you win the first round, you may have to wait a little for the second round to start, that is ok make a coffee, catch up on your BRM or email etc. You then get a chance to win a good percentage return on your investment rather than the limited return on each bingo game. You will obviously need to put a bit more time aside to complete (hopefully) and this type of game seem to suit your style. Good luck out there and I may see you in a shootout game soon, as I have just started to play this type of game myself.... not doing to well yet, next time tho.... lol.

I've been playing quite a few $10.50 HU bounty-shootout games and doing quite well, came 4th/235 in one yesterday and mostly I make it 4 or 5 rounds in. $5 goes to a standard prizepool and $5 for each bounty. Haven't tried any normal (shorthanded) shootouts, but I might give them a crack, cheers.

------------
part of the reason I play the 'bingo' games (the hypers) is because I'm aiming for a high hourly win rate, rather than a good ROI. My actual ROI won't be fantastic, as the edges as small in hypers.. But on the other hand - it's possible to play absolutely huge volume which has a couple benefits: It gives you a decent base hourly, even with a low ROI. And also - it means you get a bit of a 'rakeback' grind going as well.

From what I understand of Stars VIP system- really need to reach at least Platinum Star to get decent 'rake back'. So far in November I've only reached Silver, I may still hit Gold before end of month, but probably not. I think I need to work my way up to the $15 & $30 hypers by early 2013 to star hitting platinum star every month and ultimately get Super Nova.

Getting a good VIP deal going is pretty good - I gave up a LOT at PKR when I came to stars. Good rake-back / VIP can easily account for half your total profit, even more - some SNG grinders get ALL their profit from the VIP deal.

In this way, hypers are fantastic.

------------
heh - 3 times in a row in a HU shoot-out tourney, it's been an odd number and I've got a free pass to the 2nd round.. So good lol - means I start with half the field already eliminated!

Usually it's cash games I do it on. But this time it was a whole bunch of Hyper-HU $60 and $100, did it again last night (very drunk) didn't end well.. Stars roll about $150 now lol. haha

BRM has never been a strong point for me. I counter it now days by withdrawing lots - that way even if i bust through a 'roll' i don't bust everything. I rarely keep over $1,000 on a poker site now days, I figure better have it in my bank. It's a whole other process to be drunk and keep depositing and losing, compared to just accessing what's already on the poker site.

best advise to anyone who struggles with 'bank roll management' - just withdraw lots. Don't try and build a massive roll - because you wont, you'll just lose it all. But to take some winnings out and have something to show for it all.

don't go there with me, one warning.

I'm not going to lay into you, because I respect you're doing well lately and that's cool. But if you come into my thread again with that kind of talk, I won't hold back.

OK then, sorry, I am very hung-over atm (as per above), at work. Most jokes will probably just sail right over my head. Anger on the other hand can come quick.

jess ,, i want to give you some advice...since your on stars and it is actualy lik you've entered my home..

play there for almost 3 years now,, so if you have any questions ,,don't hesitate ,just ask.

Now the tip i want to give you is:

If you want to become platinum star each month to reach supernova ,,,start with your plan at the start of next year...

from 1rst of january...it has no sence to go for platinum in the last 2 months of the year,,it will not
gain u any status...

maybe smart to reach silver or gold at end of december ..so you'll start the year as goldmember,,,

and from there try to get the neccesary points to reach supernova at the end of 2013.

which means you will keep that status untill 31th of december 2013..

I have a pokerbuddy here in holland i play on sundays with..he's has almost reached supernova and will surely reach it before end of year..

the funny thing is he did not know about the points he already made and what benefits it would give him reaching supernova elite..

so he changed gears and plays even more frequent till end of year ...nickname : monpie120

another funny thing is ,i don't know if he's making any profit during this year ,only thing i know he's got
100K + $ prizemoney this year..but he's not opted-inn at the result sites..

so will stay a mystery,,unless i ask him ,but i don't wan't to give him a bad feeling ...about his win/loss

wonder how fast i will go for the same goal,, reaching supernova...

i think i should starting to win some tournaments first.. Smile Sad Smile Sad Smile Sad Smile
