Need some help , concerning omaha rules  +1

So what's wrong here ? I have a 7 in hand , 7 2 7 flop , 4 turn , river 4 , I hold a 7 in hand , the other guy also has a 7 and a 4 , he wins with full house , I only get 3 of a kind ? should'nt it have been a split pot ? with the 4 4 on turn and river , I'm like wtf just happened.
P.S . I'm new at omaha , only played a couple of freerolls on ftp.

well these things do happen when you only start out in omaha- i also had similar mistakes & not one Big Smile
in omaha you can only use 3 community cards +add 2 of yours = that's the end combination you get.
in this case you had 7774K...with 3 community cards being 774, and 2 of your best- 7&K
the other guy 74 in hand, so he used community cards 774 to get the full house in the end...

here are a couple of videos you might find useful:

Hey Alex on omaha you can use only 2 cards from 4 and 3 of 5 from the board... if you have AKQJ vs 2222 and board is A8888 adversar win with full of 888-22 you have set of 8 with AK kickers... btw if you want start playing omaha you must know the odds... on Hold'em AA = 80% ... on omaha AA = 55-60% ... so be carrefully... i know you're a good player and if you play omaha as well you play hold'em you can be AlexDUR1 Big Smile

Omaha rules. Always confusing for those players, who were used to play Hold'em only. But after a while that 2+3 system will become second nature.

FWIF you were a favorite until the river. Yeah Omaha is confusing, and I can't stand Hi/Lo. It's a fun game, but the variance is too much, and I don't like pot limit/fixed limit games as it takes a big part of the strategy out of the game IMO.

Everybody makes that mistake when they first start playing Omaha, EVERYBODY, so there's no need to feel like a donk about it.

It's such a common mistake I would have wagered a moths salary that this was the topic of the discussion just from the thread title

It will happen again sooner or later, thats for sure. Especially if you played holdem earlier.
When your focus goes away you'll make a mistake so try to concentrate.
I donked most of my bankrolls learning PLO so i know how it feels Big Smile
But everyone makes even greater mistakes than that in Omaha when just starting with it since it's "similar" but completely different concept from holdem.

Cheers.

no he wasn't

in fact - the river is irrelevant to villains hand. He got it on the turn.

LOL - Yes! I admit the main reason I opened the thread is because I knew exactly what was coming and it always gives me a chuckle.

------------
And yes - I made the same mistake first time I played PLO too. Figured, why bother reading the rules, how different can it be. Quite.

I hope this mistake is not holding you from playing omaha again.

I like playing omaha and after a while you get used to the 2+3 rule and you see the options that are possible when you see the table cards.

tip : in omaha you rarely win a hand with 2 pair or a set, mostly you need a FH , flush or str (depending on teh table cards) to win

and if you have a set liek you had in the hand (7 in your hand and 2 on the table) your set is dangerous as others could have already their FH (pocket 2 in their hand)

Its like been there, done that lol.
It was a costly mistake for me back then since i put all my buy in (5$)
and after the cards turned i couldnt believe my eyes.
So on the spot i asked in the game chat what happened and one of the
players answered me at once.
Silly mistake if you ask me.
But after that (Omaha was the second game in a row i tried)
before playing 5 card, 7stud etc, i was reading the rules Smile

I've been dealt quads twice playing Omaha. Your heart sinks when that happens.

It's nothing to feel like a donk about! You should have seen me with my first game of RAZZ let alone the idiot mistakes I made playing Omaha. When you start playing a game that your just not quite sure about you can made mistakes and that's how you learn and prevent making the same mistake 3 or 4 times. I say that because it's easy to make the same mistake two times in poker.
LOL Good Post

Thank you for your input guys , it's clear I have to stick with omaha freerolls for a while Big Smile , especially until I have a good grip on those odds , basically u see a full house , a straiight or a flush almost every hand Smile , but still , it's a nice distraction from Holdem.

Yeah... Omaha has strange rules. And the worst part is, when you got set from 3 or even 4 of a kind Smile
I had that situation only once, I've got 777K and the flop was 7 too, but the opponent got higher three of kind Aww crap!

i still make the same mistakes lol

Sorry Mate you MUST use 2 of your hold card and ant 3 community card to make your hand so nope you lost. sorry i have been there myself. it took me some getting used to, but i do like the game now.
One piece of advice in Omaha hi/lo it always looks like you got a good hand so play extra careful until you get some experience built up playing the game.
