The invitational event has brought together at the MGM Grand Sanya a selection of local players and international stars, including: Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan and McLean Carr.
265 players anted up on Day 1a, prompting tournament director Matt Savage to increase the overall allocation seats from 500 to 550.
The event has "surpassed all expectations" and marks a "very auspicious beginning for the WPT's presence in China".

well china is a place any poker tour want to establish themselves for the long run. it has a huge population, so that equals lots of potential customers. naturally every operator is interested to make a name for himself in well populated countries- lots of customers=lots of Dollar so wpt have made a good start- we'll see what this leads to

I think this will be a mojor hit, and i actually expect that in a few years at all online poker tables one of the players will be from China!

First of all the population, is huge, the economy works great and most of all they like to gamble!

Good move! China is big and promising market - but more people must play there... The prize for the first place is not too big, compared with other WPT/EPT tournaments. And is this open only for Chinese player?
