Vote above - for how long into the new year do you think it's appropriate to say "happy new year" to people, and/or show it in the header on websites etc. (like we do here) ?

G'day Sir.
Well for me personally the time has already past it is now the 9th of the month and I just want to forget about the past holiday. I am thankful it has come and gone. I think next December will arrive far too soon. I find the older i get the faster time seems to fly by

It slightly depends on how well you know someone. If it's a close friend or family member you don't see very often, I think it's ok to wish them a good year for like 2-3 weeks. But for strangers and acquaintances it should be a week max. If I go to work tonight and any regular customers who I haven't yet seen wish me happy new year it will be weird. And you should only wish someone happy new year once so most should be done within a few days.
As for BRM and other websites I think about 7-9 days although if you walked into a bar or tourist site and they still had happy new year decorations up you'd probably think they were lazy/careless/mental.

Posted by pochui: happy new year period ends when you're finally sober
Good day everyone I agree with pochui !!! as the party gets over and as know as they come back to consiousness and sober they will move on so new year period ends there !! i would say until 4 to 5 days would be max by then everyone would have wished everyone all sort of parties will get over so max 5 days not more than that !!

I voted 4-6 days. We greet people by the rate that u meet them ( unless they are very close friends and you call them or something) on your daily business so i figure till the end of the first week its not so uncommon to do it. After that stops to make sense.

it isn't a day period ... you can say even after 1 month if you meet 1 person for the 1st time after new year... i meet with my friends from high school and my teacher , and we said "Happy new year" even 10 days after it...

I voted, even after 14 days. I wouldnt mind seeing the banner till the end of this month Its is colourful and joyful Eitherway some of us here we pretty much say this till the end of January, if we meet someone for the very first time, after the year has changed.

heh - well said, I actually just came into this thread to say something similar, but you hit the nail on the head.
So here in Germany it is so that other people are 3 to January says, then there will only be considered annoying. Sure if you have not seen people may ask how to be got in the new year but not again and again Happy New Year!

I consider about 2-3 or 4-6 options. And I choose 2-3
When I greet with my friends after January 1st, I only say "Happy New Year" when I see this person first time after this time. Sometimes it longs for 5-7 days, but it's rare situation.
