According to academics from Oxford University and the University of Manchester, the game of poker is too complex for human brains to understand.
Research conducted by Dr Tobias Galla and Professor Doyne Farmer has shown that when faced with multiple options, such as in games like poker, the human brain loses its "rationality".
Paraphrasing their findings, Mancunian Matters said this processing breakdown leads to "chaotic and, at times, random decision-making stemming from confusion".
The research is being used to assess the effectiveness of equilibrium theory in financial trading, but the implications could also have a bearing on game theory and poker.

Of cause humans struggle when faced with a situation with multiple options. A coin has two sides only. That's why one advice for poker is to follow a push or fold approach.

yes, too complicated. we faced not just mathematics problem, also character and LUCK of our opponent and ourselves, feeling / instinct its change everyday . another thing ( for me ) :stamina ! someone still focus after 3 hours and another one start lost focus, patient etc.

i guess that explains why you get people who can totally master the game and alot of average players. because certain peoples brains can deal with multiple options better than others.

I agree with this study. And this explains why we so often come around here talking bad about fighting against "dumbs" who just won us, because they simply don't fit on the same level we are. If we know the same as our opponents, we tend to play the game the same way and to better read the intentions and to avoid some of the predictable or unpredictable traps. When going to a freeroll, you have to see it as the ocean, everyone's inside.

I could not resist, it had to be done by one of us. You all know you wanted too. What a load of crap. I think a couple guy with letters behind there names got a large research grant and then blew it on hookers, booze and drugs. ( Research Assistance) then realized they only had two day left to show some findings, d in a fit of desperation came up with this BS and wrote a paper in two days and they got another research grant to follow up this BS study.

Good day everyone poker is way too complicated so i love poker poker involves everthing !! a person's personality , physical and mental stature and everything ... we can judge a player by a lot of things and math !! the main part math is so much involved here in poker !! so for a player to keep all these in mind and making judgement is a stress on a player !! i agree poker is complicated !!!!

That why multi tasking personalities do well at playing poker. People who are used to dealing with several things seem to be pretty good at poker. I think if you can focus on how many outs you have based on you hand and then when the flop comes versus the odds of those outs you can do pretty good in poker games.
On the other hand if you become frustrated when confronted with various tasks and can't keep track of things in an organized method from a mental standpoint the game is based more on the player being lucky versus their actual skills capabilities.

I also want to point out that you always need to keep track of how a person eats there cookies at the table.
I recently watched rounders again
What a great movie.
On a more serious not it is important to be able to do at least some basic level of math and being able to know your outs is important , but you also need to ask what can he beat my hand with if I get my out and is it possible with whats on the board.

I think poker is olny complicated to our brains only when we get tilty! But i admit that when your too addcted poker its not good at all for your health. I had my case when i was too addcited i started to lost mempory faster and i had some points where all normal things in my life made me feel stressed if i wasnt playing! The relactions with girls get affected and most of times we wake up with really bad mood because of the bad days at the tables!

I think there is a lot of truth and relevance to this statement. The next time you play poker, look at your hand and then consider all of the possibilities....not just that you will either win or lose, but start to consider 'every' possibility of what could happen next and you will realise just how difficult being really good at poker is.
. another thing ( for me ) :stamina !
