That's the ego talking. Basically, the player's emotions are in control and they are playing on tilt. It's one of the most difficult things in get right.

In cash games the player has the option of walking away and playing tomorrow, in tournaments though, the player is stuck and has to learn hoe to keep their ego under control. when playing short stacked in tournaments there comes a time when the player is faced with either shoving or folding. The trick is to pick your spot and hopefully the villain doesn't get lucky.

doyle said in his book when he took a vacation after playing for i think 2 or 3 years every day and finally realising he was doing so he took 3 weeks went to Hawaii and didnt even think about poker. said it was one of the best things he could do for his game he came back and noticed the bettter quality of play right away after the break. not saying we can all afford to fly off to some amazing island for a few weeks but a couple days or even couple months off does wonders! and at your first comment saynothing i totally agree we are all degens at heart Evil Evil Evil

Cause we are degens. Big Smile
We move up, where they respect our raises, and win it all back. Or maybe not.
If you can control that mindset you are on the right path.

I'll go with the popular answer: Because we're Degenerate. For me at least, that is 100% true. Degen 4 life.

Of course some of us are more degen than others. Big Smile Then there is the problem that the complete maniacs don't respect other players raising the pot. Aww crap! You get more than one of them on a table and the game becomes a lottery until they lose their stacks. Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap!

Sometimes we are greedy, other times we just want to run after the downswing because we have time for it, most of the times we do it we act that way because it’s still on our time to play. If we start looking at it like an investment - something more serious than just a game -, maybe we tend to adopt a different posture. That doesn’t mean we shut off the laptop over a bad run, but we will stop to think and act differently, changing strategy (like playing a different format, or going to lower buy-in levels), although we keep playing. That’s the difference between the amateur and the wannabe-pro.
P.S. sometimes it seems I have a lot of theory, but I also keep acting the wrong way

i will go with: "You lost some money in cash games, and you will play more because you say, i will stop when i take my money back". And you lose more. That's what it's happening with me at least, and i hate it, don't know how to stop unless my pc is going dow, or i lost the internet connection, or my power went down. I rly need to learn when to stop, cause it's rly bad. Last night i lost $20 in rush poker... the last one .... entered with $4, i make $6 and then i say 1 last hand and already i was "Sit out next hand"... got QQ and played against KK .... lost everything.

have a nice day and GL. And don't do it like me on cash tables.

I bet this has happened to every single poker player some time in his life for sure.
You just keep hoping i guess that things will change soon, and start winning the money
back right away.
Which is something that doesnt happen most of the times, so the break is the best thing.

Degen for sure, and as others already said you don't just stop playing, you also want to try a higher limit...

There are real stories of people that were regulars on low stakes and in moments like this moved to higher stakes and lost almost all of their br Shock

I'm always doing it. i always think "i can win it back" but it takes me 2 or 3 more buy-ins to realise that i can't because I'm playing like a complete 'tard Big Smile

good luck on and off the felts all Thumbs Up oh and remember to take a break after those bad beats Big Smile

It's a natural human response to failure that we feel the need to make good so that psychologically at least we can walk away as winners or at least, not losers, it's a difficult thing and not as easy as some will say, just do it!

well mate it is human nature to feel slighted when getting hit during a down swing. People think if I just play a little longer things have gotta turn around and if I just get even i will call it a day.

Wrong idea entirely. in this situation you are most likely on tilt and do not realize it so you chase and make more mistakes and lose even more. desperation takes over then it goes real down hill.

This is when you need the most self discipline. and walk away.
