If you're in a weak position, then it might be wise to go ahead and muck low pockets from the get go. Everyone to your left is still to act, and you don't want to raise the flop only to be three-bet by someone holding pocket jacks. That being said, don't be afraid to check raise if you have position, or are in the blinds. Don't be afraid to re-raise and to put new pressure on your opponents. At this point you're hoping to chase out any marginal hands that may have limped along with a relatively unremarkable hand like jack-ten, who may have been hoping to skate by for a cheap flop. Remember when re-raising, however, your goal is to intimidate the raiser, so bet big enough to make them uncomfortable. Your bet should silence the rest of the table all the same. At the same time, a substantial raise should be enough to put you off your hand swiftly. Whether you're sitting in a casino or hitting the virtual tables on your favorite poker site, you should be able to read other players' actions well enough to know that a raise suggests strength. Although there is a lot of bluffing to be found in poker, you have to decide whether or not that pair of fours is worth the risk.

i prefer to limp with small pocket pairs in early position so i can call a raise and only risk the bare minimum making it easy to fold if it gets 3 bet, plus if u limp everyone else has a tedency to limp also which gives u good price to make your 7 1/5 to 1 odds of hittin a set

ya in tourneys its all about stack sizes positsions and about how far are cash places and so on lol cards often not matter at all sometimes need only 22 to showe not know much about cash tables those 2 are 100% diffrend play anyways and 22--1010 not big diffrence most times get called with AJ+ anyways only reason it would matter if u have 22 or 1010 wud be if opponent have 33-99 mostly they have AJ+ or even better anyways if they call

In tournaments, Small pocket pairs are situational.
Most of the time you want to see a cheap flop, if you hit a set bet for value. However if you get a flop with over cards you need to be cautious. If their are no over cards make a smallish bet and be willing to fold if a tight player raises behind you, With a lose player it's probably a coin flip to call or fold. However, If your stack size is getting small and your the first to act it may be worthwhile to shove.

i wouldn't be re-raising with small pocket pairs unless its blind on blind in a tourney with blinds and ante's The whole idea of playing small pp's is to hit a set. So to be able to play these hands profitably you need to get into the hand as cheaply as possible and to make the maximum when you do hit your set.
So even tho you have copied and pasted your thread from somewhere i still don't agree with it.

Good day everyone I would play small pairs depending on the position .... if my position is weak ie utg or early position i would limp with pocket pairs .. if not i would make a raise ... but ill muck it if i do get a re raise ... its better folding rather than seeing the flop ... sometimes small pocket pairs are so productive ....!!

Hello mobsters! I play small pocket pairs only in late positions.I try to make call(no raise or re-raise).If small blind calls and big blind makes check - very nice.Usually you won't get the third card you need,but if you hit you can make your opponents very upset

Small pocket pairs are something I consider 8 or lower and I'm agreeing with Jibb on this. I generally limp in until I see the flop to decide how to finish out the hand.
Based on other's reactions to flop is also something to watch and if your playing someone who like strapping players is a good thing to be aware of to. Unless I trip out on the flop I'm not going to risk all my chips trying to intimidate other players by going allin in hopes that they'll fold out. I watch players attempt tghis all the time and end up getting their small pairs beat while in the process of losing their stack.

occaisonally ill call small-mid 3 bets with a small pair if i can really put my opponent on a very small range such as really big pocket pair or AK and we're deep but then we're talkin implied odds
