Never noticed, or heard of such tournaments before. I did a google search and it seems that this type of tournament exists in quite a few sites, like Party Poker, Full Tilt, Aced. Here is a couple of links :

That's true of any type of mtt. It depends on the pay out structure but most mtts have a large 1st place compared with the buy-in. The most common shootouts are heads up tournaments and they don't particularly have a steep pay out structure. And from the link above I see that Party poker pays out a portion of the prize pool at each level so first place is probably not huge.

i won to play for like 5,10$ max im sure i can advance in first two rounds.i was kicking asses in shootout when we had poker club i was making great profit every might ,but now it is closed so i must play on line

Thanks for the post Never heard about this type of game.The rules are a bit complicated but main thing(play proficient) remains.I will definitely try somehow. Good luck!
