Hi guys!
As you may have noticed, I haven't exactly been active here on the forums and haven't finished the threads/challenges I've started.
The reason for this is because my great grandmother passed away. It really hit me hard so I haven't felt motivated to do anything to be honest... We were really close and I really don't know what to do with life anymore.
I've stayed home from work (took out some personal time) and has pretty much just been laying in bed all the time.
But today, I want to grab a hold of my life again and try to make the best out of it. So I've started to pick up some hours at work just to get out of the appartment.
I kinda figured that I might as well try some poker as well to keep my mind on something else so I've been donking around at some freerolls but I really don't feel motivated.
So I thought I might try to write some here as well. So I might as well ask you guys, how do I get passed this? Will I ever? Could poker help to keep my mind occupied? What sort of games should I play to minimize losses (due to loosing concentration) and that keeps my mind more busy?

I feel your pain mate. I have been there myself. Everyone who knew my Grandmother agreed she was a living saint. What help me was the idea that she was finally at peace. Her life the lest few years were a nightmare for her as she developed extreme alzheimers. In the end her passing was a kindness to her spirit. I love her dearly even now.
I recommend you remember you grandmother for everything about her that was good and kind. Remember how she loved you and ask yourself what she would want you to do. I am sure she would want you to live a life filled with happiness and joy.
You can honor her by living well and moving forward in the way she would want you too. In regards to your poker question I recommend micro limit Mtt's as they have a fixed buy in so a maximum amount to be lost or just freerolls with no stress about placing in the money. Play just to have something to do.

Well, she actually was my great grandmother (as in my grandmothers mother) so I guess it was her time. She celebrated her 92nd birthday just a couple of weeks before she passed. And the last year was a bad year for her. She got alzheimers as well and didn't really remember anything at all. And the last week it was pretty much impossible to even get contact with her.
So I do take some comfort in that it was her time and she's in a better place now. It still hurts tho...

Hey erru you are always welcome back here in the forum to get back on track. First of all, I am sorry for you. I understand what you been going through. But I think you have to control your life again, your grand-grandmother would be proud of you if you live your life with happiness. Do the things you like, as before. Sports are very good for your health and will make you feel better.
I tell you the truth, poker has only made my life more stressful. Especially cash games. And I am a winning player. I think I'm hooked to poker. I can't live without it anymore, because I really believe in the long run I will earn cash from it. That's the main reason I'm playing. An advice would be - if you're starting to play poker - to stick to tournaments. Then you know exactly how much you spend and what you can win in return.

erru9107, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss and I know that it takes time to get through things that hit close to the heart as losing someone. All I can say is, I always think to myself that a soul contiues to live in us when we think about the person we've lost and that keeps that person's soul alive. Just remember that she probably wouldn't want to see you down and out.
What helped me when I lost my Father was putting photos of him from the various times of his life. From a child and as he grew older. The photos are of him and my family which were framed as a callage (not sure how that's spelled) and then hung them. I believe this let's one know their thought of and missed.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss erru. You should take comfort in the fact that she truly has gone to a better place.
I know it's hard but i doubt she would want you to be moping around your apartment. Just remember the good times you had and take comfort in the fact you got to share a great relationship.

Hi erru, words don’t solve nothing in moments like this, so I won’t write nothing about your pain, just hope you can go through with it the best way possible. Try to look at all around you like the other things you have that also make your life comfortable. The Internet is one of them, poker and BRM too, and you know you’re welcome here, and we can do our part by helping you thinking about other things. There have been some crazy hands related around here that just made me laugh. And there’s also a tourney of ours scheduled at PS, why don’t you register for it? GL erru

I doubt something like gambling or poker will help you in the long run.. It might take your mind of it for a while but when you also have some losing sessions you crash even harder.
Just find support from the ones you love..not much more you can do.. Sometimes live sucks..

Well Erru, sorry to hear from your loss...
I lost my mother about 3 years ago and I still miss her.... The only thing I can tell you is
remember the good times, place a picture to remember her,...
At the moment it will not help but in the long term think you were lucky as you could spent more than 20 years together. My youngest daughter was born after my mother died, so she does not know her grandmother at all.
So just be thankfull for the time you had together....
For poker : only play if it relaxes, just freerolls or micros.... don t do crazy things (to high stakes or buyins)
