Online poker regulation for Australia  0
According to an article , a "Review of the Interactive Gaming Act 2001 (IGA)" has suggested that online poker tournaments should be made legal.
At present the IGA prohibits online poker, however, many citizens still play on unregulated sites; something recent research claims could pose certain risks.
In light of the review, Senator Stephen Conroy said he wants to "provide a consistent approach to online gambling regulation" across Australia.
While there no plans currently in place, it looks as though Australia may move towards a state-by-state regulatory system at some point in the future.

If you compare online poker to other potential problems of a country is nothing. The only logical explain i can find is that this topic brings many votes!

We actually pay people in government offices to control what we want to do with our money. This kills me to think the wasted time, money and effort these donks put forth to act like their doing something good for the countries they represent. I wish they had to go to work at a real job and would actually see what it's like to let me pick and chose what they can or can't do.

G'day mates

It looks like another damn politician is going to start screwing around with his country's citizens rights to play online poker. We all know why too. He has figured out it can earn his district allot of tax dollars by forcing online players to pay outlandish taxes.
Just one more bastard politian Fcuking things up for other people.

Yes Green, when you think like that it's even more mindboggling...

In the end it would not be a problem if you get a tax but most of the times they choose to ban what thy can't control Thumbs Down

An Australian Senator has called for the removal of PokerStars' mobile app from iTunes Apple store.
According to Dr Di Natale, Australia doesn't allow online poker for Australian citizens and, therefore, Apple has "an obligation to take down" the app.
Dr Natale is one of the loudest spokesperson for the laws that would restrict online poker across Australia to its least harmful form, which, according to Natale, is tournament poker.
At present, however, there are no anti-online measures preventing the game from being played in Australia and the main reason why Apple (and Android) apps are available in the country.

gambling/poker online is illegal in Australia, but nothing is done about it. But it's always on a knife-edge of some reform or another.. Senator Conroy is a total cunt.

I guess you only need one of these idi*** to get the snowball rolling and in the end to get a perm ban Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

He clearly does not have even the slightest clue about poker, in his mind cash games are more "harmful" than tournaments but in fact you have a higher variance in mtt than on cash or sng...

Yeah, he's our communications minister here (minister of the Internet) he's been trying to bring in all kinds of really fucked Internet censorship in fact and he has no concept of technology himself. He's just one of those assholes who seems to have a whole lot to say about something he knows nothing about.

The world wud be a better place without all the people who figure governments need to legislate every aspect of one's life. Nowadays one can't wipe their ass without some type of gov involvement...sad, really. Sad

Australia also have states? Didn’t knew about that. This news remember me about my country’s situation. In Portugal, it has already been announced that there would be new rules for online gaming, but until now (more than six months have passed) no one knows about anything, I guess they all must be more worried about the European financial crisis. It makes sense. But, about Australia, having people, like some mobsters, playing in unregulated software seems dangerous.
