I've got a tilt...

Today I lose over 1/2 of my BR in some SnG Fifty50 at Stars...
I lose super hands, mostly on Magic Rigged River...

I lose AK vs 44, KK vs AQ (A on river), QQ vs 76 (straight on river)...

I know that s**t happens... but it's pretty unusual, right?

I don't try to change my strategies, because I've won a lot of tournaments on this...

I HATE RIVER !!!

That is sad, lose 50% from BR because of river... This should'n be called POKERSTARS ... JOKERSTARS is a pretty name for that s**t ... i've calculate an any MTT rake and they take from the rake equal with 3rd place paid... se we fight for top 3 with our money and our time and they just win same prize like 3rd place without stres... i don't know even one person who say: RIVER SAVES ME TODAY 10 TIME ... but all of us lose over than 100 times after magic river... We can't do nothing but we can stop play online... hope you get more luck next sessin and get back your BR + some cash Big Smile GL

It's very bad when that happens; trust me, i also know what you're talking about. The good of it is that its something that looks periodic: when it happens more than two times in the same session, we can almost guarantee it will happen some more times. The bad of it is when it passes to the next session. At that point we tend to think it's a curse, but it will happen to go away.

euh ... loosingf 1/2 of your bankroll in 1 day ---> probably playing at levels that are to high or a very low bankroll

The hands your talking about --> all-in preflop ???

If yes, you were in front preflop but not that far

AK vs 44 --> coinflip
KK vs AQ ---> about 70/30
QQ vs 76 -->about 77/22

These are not bad beats ---> just the statistics were not in your favour

Also you have to consider the stacksize of yourself and your opponents (fold equity)
If I was the bigblind with 67 and only had to call 1 BB ---> defenitely a call

So just posting starting hands here and complaining here about bad luck....won t help

Try to improve your game by analyzing and try to avoid preflop allins (always risky)

better try to improve your postflop game ---> learn the strenght of your hand and how to protect it for the turn/river by making the right betsize and look what s your opponents does and think what he could have.

example

starting hand 10 10

I raise 3 BB (on the button) and get called by the SB and BB (pot 9 BB)

flop 10 Heart 6 Club 5 Heart

SB checks, BB raises 3BB

I have to reraise because I am sure I have the nuts at the moment

possible cards that could beat me when they hit on the turn/river ---> flushdraw, str-draw, higher pair (JJ,QQ,KK,AA) --> probalbly they will not have AA,KK,QQ as they did not reraised preflop

So I would reraise here at least 1/2 of the pot, to make them pay for their possible draws.

If you get called (if he has something like A3 Heart --> less than 25 % chance he ll hit

So if another Heart comes on teh turn, be carefull and try to control the pot by a small raise (mostly they call (slowplay) and you get a cheap river and a chance to make a FH)

So poker is more than waiting for monster starting hands and then push the allin button

Thanks for your response...

But there are more situations, when people call/raise hands like donks, and then magically win the pot...

Example

Bubble, I'm shortstack (about 6BB), and got QQ. So I went all-in preflop. Donk with 8-10BB re-raise it to all-in to frighten other opponents. And he show some like 85o.
And then cards magically give him flush!!! How???

I know, that cards like QQ, KK, AK, AQ don't win all-the time... But, if someone gol all-in with cards like mentioned before (75o, T4o, 52s etc), and I call it with cards like QQ, KK, AK, and then I lose to trips, straight or flush on river - what I can do???

We lose more hands there than we win.
You have it on the flop, you have it on the turn, you pray for the river....

I think the only advice i could give you right now would be to see as many common cards as possible before going all in...

Maybe a short break could also help a bit your game but i'm sure you can come back especially on sng.

Well with normal sngs I'd say 100BI is good BRM, with DONS I'd say around 50-60, however I'd be comfortable with even as low as 40-50. So if you lost half your roll, you either weren't practicing proper brm (like it's already been pointed out) or you hit a massive cooler and lost at least 20 in a row.

Now I've played quite a few of those dons, and I'll say that losing 20 in a row is pretty uncommon, unless you're just not playing good. Usually all you need is one double up, and you can easily fold into the money in them (Not that I'd advocate that strategy, but it's very plausible).

If the former is true, then I'd highly recommend dropping stakes and playing within your roll. If the latter is true, then practice playing them, pay attention to the players at the table and more importantly, players stack sizes.

In DONS, ICM isn't as relative, as the payouts are so flat. Instead you have to pay attention to the blinds, and everyones stack sizes. Try and pick on those who are trying to limp into the money, and attack them. Avoid the aggressive big stacks, because you KNOW they will call you down.

It seem's this crap happens in streaks just like losing or winning. I didn't realize how much it really happens until well, after about 3 years of playing. I see it coming anymore and I just play the lower buyin games when I feel the losing streak or the the river monster starting eat away at the BR.

Things will turn around and as you stated, don't change your playing technique if it's usually good for you.

I feel for ya my friend...!

I've had a bad poker day today too. In the bigger money games I've played today I've been boinked out by some bingo playing bonehead...

In the Big $4.40,...I'm about 2 hours in,...reasonably sized stack of about $7,700 and get Aces and lay a nice sized bet. 3 or 4 folks call,...rainbow junk flop comes down so I shove...

Everybody folds except the one guy. He's got like 6 4 of diamonds,...2 more diamonds come down and BAM....

Late registered in the $5.50 this morning and just kept getting junk pocket after junk pocket.....

...never connected anything on the flop,...and all bluffs got re-raised..... The blinds just slowly ate me up,...then I took one chance shove at the end and BAM

G'day mate

Well my first thought is you was not practicing any bankroll management at all mate.
Let's face it if you was then even if you lost everything you had on a rounser table it would only have been 5% of your roll, or maybe 10% if you are a throtal jockey in the extreme like I sometimes am Smile

Better luck next time.

i have a solution if you want not to be in a situation where you lose 1/2 of your bankroll again: very simple & very effective- play only with 1 buy-in bankroll, this way if you lose the game you will lose 100% of your bankroll.
on a serious note- sh1t happens, don't give up. take a break, let the emotions calm a bit & hit the tables with new energy Thumbs Up

G'day mate

I feel your pain and understand it personally.
The key thing to remember is that you still have half your bankroll left so you can rebuild it.
Be cool and best of luck in the future mate.
I hope you continue to play using good bankroll management.
