Read the news?

And do you know who the picture is of? And more importantly, if you know who the picture is of and from which show, do you know what he's talking about in this scene?

no, but I can put 2 and 2 together , R.I.P whoever he is

I mean did he die?\

haha that is Rik Mayall, he's a comedian / actor.. And the picture is from the TV show "The Young ones"

He's not dead though, it's a reference to someone else who died very recently, huge news by the way.

Haha it's a fantastic TV show, very 80s though lol, but definitely worth watching.

It's not hugely related to the person who died though, it's a fairly loose reference.. That video I just posted is directly about her though Blink

Not just the British who understand this....... the pic is from a tv show , actually the best tv show ever called the young ones........ Dont know bout the rest off the world, but in western Europe this tv show was on tv in the early 80's. The guy on the pic did not die, no he was Rick the anarchist one of the 4 main characters in the show. He was always ranting about the Iron Lady aka Margaret Thatcher ( who died yesterday) .

And Jessthehuman ...thanx for bringing back memories Worship Worship

correct it was to our Maggie don't l know why I am saying our Maggie for because she destroyed the mining industry which in turn destroyed most of the lives of people in the same town/village in Wales, most of Northumbria and Liverpool which has never been able to be repaired.

I will not give that sort of response to her death and I don't give her any sort of sadness either,
I can only give her the dignity and respect that all people from the UK well most people deserve when they die has should you lot here too.

Yes that gesture from Rick was made while making a tv program at that time and in gest as there was maybe a little bit in the post, now it is different she has died.

I don't want to go into what the families from the areas I mentioned earlier might feel as I was lucky enough not live in a coal mining area of the UK when all the trouble was going on, but I have an idea what the reaction will be, again may be a good reason for there reaction but she was only doing her job.

How many in the UK at that time were able to buy there council house because of her, come on absolutely millions did and at a reduced cost.

So with every one in politics comes the bad with the good.

That doesn't make any sense, just because someone dies, it doesn't change who they were or what they did and it certainly doesn't entitle one to any respect, respect is earn't, it's not just granted to you for dying.

What? Suddenly she's what, a good person?

but she was only doing her job.

No I'm sorry.. That is never an excuse, it's not an excuse when people are doing unethical jobs and it's not an excuse when you're the Prime Minister of a country either.

An excerpt from Morrissey's statement on the death of Margaret Thatcher, as written on the Daily Beast...

"Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the Ivory Trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own Cabinet booted her out. She gave the order to blow up The Belgrano even though it was outside of the Malvinas Exclusion Zone - and was sailing AWAY from the islands! When the young Argentinean boys aboard The Belgrano had suffered a most appalling and unjust death, Thatcher gave the thumbs up sign for the British press.
Iron? No. Barbaric? Yes. She hated feminists even though it was largely due to the progression of the women's movement that the British people allowed themselves to accept that a Prime Minister could actually be female. But because of Thatcher, there will never again be another woman in power in British politics, and rather than opening that particular door for other women, she closed it."

Politics is subjective. As provided by another Daily beast article....

"Margaret Thatcher was once asked what she thought she had changed about British politics. “Everything,” she replied. It was true. If anyone since Winston Churchill can truly be said to have saved Britain, it was her. On becoming the first female prime minister in British history in May 1979, she set about changing the direction that Britain was going, which at the time was full speed ahead towards Third World status. By the time she left Downing Street 11½ years later—after the longest spell as premier of anyone since 1827—there was little about Britain that she had not changed immeasurably for the better."

Thatcher totally divided opinion and when she left office the country was split 51% 49% when asked if she had done a good job.

As for destroying manufacturing, she didn't. That was done all by themselves by allowing unions so much power and control preventing investment in an ever increasingly competitive world. After all who would invest millions in new factories etc to not know if the workforce would just down tools and walk out at any given opportunity??

I'm not saying all she did was right because it wasn't but she did a lot more for this country and its standing in the world than anyone else in my lifetime.

And she definitely had more balls than any of the men since Tongue

G'day mate

Well i must say that I would agree with you.
I am a Canadian and I still had great respect for the ol' gal whom they referred to as the Iron Maiden.
I always thought you was a ballsy old British lady who just stepped up to get the job done because she truly believed she was the best choice to do it.
be cool and my condolences.

Ronin

Quite true regarding it all being subjective, I am at course a 'lefty-liberal' sort of person and there is of course an opposing opinion. That said, I certainly don't care for Thatcher nor do I think she saved England in any way. But of course, there are certainly opinions other than my own and I do respect that!

Not soon enough! 40 years too late if you ask me Angry
She was an absolute horrible woman who destroyed this country and made the poorer people of Britain suffer.
I think Cameron is doing the exactly the same. The economy was steadily getting back on track when he took office and now were going into a triple recession. Great job Thumbs Up fooking tory scumbags!
