Internet Gambling Bill Introduced in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania State Representative Tina Davis introduced a bill to legislative committee on Monday that would legalize online gambling within the commonwealth.
Spearheaded by Davis, House Bill 1235 is co-sponsored by eleven other Pennsylvania legislators including Thomas Caltagirone, Rosita Youngblood, Dom Costa, William Kortz, Vanessa Lowery Brown, RoseMarie Swanger, Mark Cohen, Ed Neilson, George Dunbar, John Galloway and John Sabatina.
If approved by the House Gaming Oversight Committee, it will then be heard and voted on by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
I don't understand why they wanna tax gambling in the first place. I mean, the money we gamble with has been earned one way or another, and normal people work for it... Why tax it again, and why tax winners and not losers?
I really don't get it, can someone explain that to me? ^^

Well I find it absolutely sad that the individual states must all pass independent laws to allow the American poker players to play online poker. I mean it is just so stupid. Thank God here in Canada we can all decide for ourselves if we want to play online poker. The downside is they have passed new taxation laws which are just highway robbery. Online poker winning can now be taxed as high as 42%.

Goverments are the biggest criminals out there. If we should pay tax on our winnings then it is not anything more than normal that we should also RECEIVE tax back on our deposits, right? Isn't that the normal way for companies for buying and selling commercial products also? But no, they want pay along with making the cake, they only want to eat a part and if you are not looking, they will take the whole freaking cake!

well i suppose this is good news for the U.S. players as it's looking like they will be back online sooner rather than later,Greenmohave especially as he's been dying to spend the BR he built here on BRM.

I recently saw a segment on the show 60 Minutes about gambling in Pennsylvania. They were all arguing about putting a Casino in Pittsburgh or somewhere,...and about lost revenue to online gambling,....and then the others arguing they want NO gambling of any kind there because of the damage it does...

I guess it gets taxed like anything else you spend money on except for food and other neccessities...
In Canada here,....winnings from gambling other than Federal or Provincial lotterys get taxed as if it were just income.
If you make 20,000 gambling and 20,000 for your job,....you get taxed in the $40,000 tax bracket...
No big deal,...it's income...
Different story down in the US I gather... any winfalls they hit you HARD!!!

Well it is my understanding that revenue Canada has recently changed the taxation laws regarding poker winnings. From what I have been told from a Revenue Canada Employee all poker winnings now about $1000 will be taxed on a graduated scale ranging from 28% to 42%. It is just down right thieft in my opinion.

Now that's interesting.... I guess the ONLY way they'll be able to really keep track of that is if you play on some of the upcoming Canadian based poker sites where they can keep a direct eye on who wins what...
Maybe some of those sites will be required to report any large winnings directly to the Feds or provinces...
I guess it would be the same in any of the big Casinos,...if you win BIG,...they probably want all your personal info for tax purposes. I'm not sure how it works with casinos as I've never really won anything big...
And ya,....you're right,....I guess they want to get their meat-hooks into a disproportionate amount of your winnings...
